I'm a political junkie.... I'm a republican, I guess. But I listen to tons of NPR, and I can't stand Rush, or Hannity, or Savage, so guess I'm more moderate. I'm also very interested in History. I don't like sports. I love music.
I'd love to meet my grandpa (Dad's dad). He died long before I was born. Also my grandma (Mom's Mom).I'd also like to meet Bill O'reilly so that I could kick him in the testicles! It's not so much that I disagree with him politically, it's just that he's so cocky. He'll have on these experts, who have spent their entire lives studying a specific issue and then he'll be like: "Ok now, here's where you're WRONG!" THEY'RE THE EXPERT BILL! YOU'RE JUST A TALKING HEAD!I'd like to meet a 10 year old me and tell him, "Hey kid, get it together, or you'll end up like me."
I have this theory about people who like music: If you love all kinds of music, and can find something redeeming in every style, then you are a music lover. If you really really like one style (jazz for example) but hate every other style, you're not a music lover. You're a music hater. That being said, I love these people:Rock-Pink Floyd, Pavement, Ben Folds, Wilco, The Killers (I could kiss brandon flowers and not feel at all gay about it)Worship/Praise-Delerious?, David Crowder, Mutemath (everybody else in this genre is a substitue teacher)Jazz- Horace Silver, Miles Davis, Bud Powell, Bill Evans, Red GarlandCountry- Brad Pasley, Early Wilco, Johnny Cash, the guy who sings Honky-Tonk-Badonka DonkBlues- Stevie Ray (The man), Eric Clapton, Freddie King (and a million other Kings)Prog-rock- Mars Volta, System of a downSinger/Songwriter- Paul Simon, Nick Drake, Rufis WainwrightClassical- Beethoven, Philip Glass (his film soundtracks are much better than his straight classical), Bartok, Rachmaninoff, Bach, Mozart, Haydn,Dvorak, Debussy, Ravel, Gershwin.
I found that if you marry someone with completely different taste in movies, your own taste in movies will change completely. So I'll separate this into two sections: Before I was married- Annie Hall, Magnolia, Bottle Rocket, Monty Python The Life of Brian, 2001: A Space Odessy. After I was married- Anchor Man: The legend of Ron Burgandy, Old School, All the Harry Potter movies, All the Lord of the Rings Movies.Movies me and Jessie Hate: The red violin, just watched it last night. It's very long. I like how it is photographed, but it's completely pointless. Samuel L. Jackson is only in it for about 10 minutes and he's a complete jerk the whole time. Also, me and Jessie aren't all that sure what a really good violin looks or sounds like. Stradavarious.... Yamaha... I can't tell the difference.Solaris- It's a quiet, thoughtful story of love and loss.... and an evil planet. Could have told the same story in 10 minutes. Also, the dead wife in the movie is ugly.
Arrested Development beats all. I also like most of the Law and Order shows. Me and Jessie both like "Crossing Jordan", it's like Law and Order, but written by women: It's about solving murders, but it's also about relationships! Their no-nonesense, hard-drinking boss Garret is not above asking "Hey, how are you FEELING today?"
The Bible gets the highest props. Recently I've read (or am reading)- My dark places, by James Ellroy (The DEMON DOG... this guy's tales get brutal quickville), The Last Precinct, by Patricia Cornwell (she solved the Jack the Ripper mystery a few years ago!). Derek Prince:A Biography by Stephen Mansfield. In general I like Vonnegut, Wolfe, Bradbury, John Kennedy Toole and too many other people to mention.
Well now that I've read Brooke's my space, I need to put Jesus first. He's changed my life. Also, my dad. My mom, who has been such a picture of self-less love in my life.
