1957 Earth's space age begins with the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1

1992 Khan Noonien Singh , product of late 20th century experiments with genetic engineering, rises to power, assuming control over one quarter of planet Earth
1993 A group of genetically engineered "superior" humans seize power simultaneously in some forty of Earth's nations, mainly in the so-called "third world". The terrible Eugenic wars ensue, in part because the genetic "supermen" take to fighting among themselves. Entire populations are bombed out of existence.
1996 The Eugenic Wars end. Khan Noonien Singh is overthrown and escapes from Earth in the DY-100 class sleeper ship SS Botany Bay along with 96 of his fellow genetic "supermen".
2009 Shaun Geoffry Christopher commands the first manned Earth-Saturn space-probe mission
2024 An uprise in San Fancisco's Sanctuary District A leads to the abolishment of these inhuman institutions, originally established to accomodate homeless and jobless people. This event, later known as the " Bell riots ", makes the people start to face the serious social problems it has struggled with for over a century.
2053 World War III , a nuclear conflict on planet Earth, ends after more than 37 millions of people were killed.
2061 Warp drive is invented by Zefram Cochrane .

2065 SS Valiant is lost on an exploration mission into deep space.
2079 The Age of postatomic horror : Earth begins to recover from World War III.

2150 The first real world government is established on planet Earth with the state of Australia joining the union.
2156 War breaks out between Earth and the Romulan Star Empire . It is fought with primitive nuclear weapons, and the Romulan ships are not even equipped with warp drive.
2160 The Romulan war ends in the battle of Charon, with Earth Forces eventually defeating the Romulan fleet. The Treaty of Algeron is negotiated over subspace radio, creating a 1 Light-year wide " Neutral Zone " between Earth and Romulan space.
2161 The United Federation of Planets is founded. Starfleet is established in the same year with a charter "to boldy go where no man has gone before".
2218 First contact with the Klingon Empire . This disastrous encounter leads to almost a whole century of hostilities between the Empire and the Federation.
2243 Dr. Richard Daystrom invents duotronic computer technology which becomes basis for the main computers used aboard the starship Enterprise.
2245 The USS Enterprise NCC-1701 is launched from the San Francisco Yards. Captain Robert April assumes command of the Constitution-class ship and begins a five-year mission of exploration.
2250 James T. Kirk enrolls in Starfleet Academy. First assignment is USS Republic NCC-1371 .
2251 Christopher Pike assumes command of USS Enterprise to command its second five-year mission to explore deep space.
2252 Spock , still an Academy cadet, begins service aboard USS Enterprise.
2253 Spock graduates from Academy. Dr. Leonard McCoy graduates from medical school.
2254 James Kirk graduates from Starfleet Academy. He is the only cadet ever to beat the "no-win scenario" of the Kobayashi-Maru simulation . He is assigned duty aboard USS Farragut .
2255 United Federation of Planets and Sheliak corporate sign Treaty of Armens .
2256 The USS Enterprise completes its second five-year mission of exploration and begins a year of refit work in spacedock.

Captain James Kirk and Commander Spock are arrested by Romulan authorities on a mission to seize an improved Romulan cloaking device.
2269 Kirk's five-year mission aboard the Enterprise comes to an end. The ship returns to spacedock to undergo a major refit. Kirk is promoted to Admiral, Spock and McCoy leave Starfleet.
2271 The Enterprise successfully defends Earth against the V'Ger space probe . Spock and McCoy re-enter Starfleet.
2284 Spock becomes instructor at Starfleet Academy. The USS Enterprise is assigned to Academy training flights.
2285 Khan Noonien Singh escapes exile on Ceti Alpha VI, gains control of USS Reliant and tries to steal the Genesis terraforming device .
Spock dies in trying to save the Enterprise.
While Kirk and his Crew are trying to save Spock's body, the Enterprise is destroyed. Later on, Spock's body, re-born on planet Genesis, is reunited with his Katra (his mind).
2286 Kirk and companions save Earth from an alien probe by transporting two humpback whales from the 20th to the 23rd century.
The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A , second ship to bear the name, is commissioned. Admiral Kirk is demoted to Captain and assumes command of the new starship.
2287 Sybok , Spock's half brother, gains control of the Enterprise trying to find his vision of god which is believed to live on planet Sha Ka Ree .
2290 Hikaru Sulu is promoted captain of USS Excelsior NCC-2000 .
2293 Praxis , a Klingon moon, is destroyed by a huge explosion. The Klingon economy is nearly paralyzed, military budgets have to be cut, too. This leads to the Khitomer peace talks .
Klingon chancellor Gorkon is assassinated. The office is carried on by his daughter, Azetbur .
The Enterprise-A is decommissioned. Kirk, Scott and McCoy retire.
The new Enterprise-B , an Excelsior-Class starship , is commissioned. Captain Harriman assumes command. On her maiden voyage, the Enterprise encounters a powerful energy field, the Nexus . Captain Kirk is believed killed when an energy discharge causes a hull breach in the section where Kirk is working.
2295 The transport ship USS Jenolen is lost on her way to the Norpin colony . One of the passengers was Captain Montgomery Scott .
2311 The Tomed incident . War with the Romulans is prevented by 2nd Treaty of Algeron which forbids the Federation use of cloaking technology. The Romulans start a prolonged period of isolation lasting until 2364.
2327 Jean-Luc Picard graduates from Starfleet Academy.
2328 Planet Bajor is annexed by the Cardassian Union .
2333 Captain Jean-Luc Picard assumes command of USS Stargazer NCC-2893 .
2344 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-C is destroyed near Narendra III .
2346 Worf's parents are killed by Romulans at the Khitomer massacre . Starfleet Officer Sergey Rozhenko adopts Worf.
2355 USS Stargazer is nearly destroyed by a Ferengi vessel in the Battle of Maxia . After having spent months in an escape pod, Picard is court-martialled but eventually acquitted.
2357 William T. Riker graduates from Starfleet Academy. His first assignment is aboard the unfortunate USS Pegasus .
2361 Riker, now serving aboard the Potemkin , participates in a rescue mission on planet Nervala III . A double is created by a transporter malfunction, living undiscovered on the planet until 2369.
2363 The third Enterprise, the NCC-1701-D is launched from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
Before transferred to the Enterprise, William Riker serves as executive officer aboard USS Hood .

2367 As Borg drone " Locutus ", Picard is forced to lead an assault against the Federation near Wolf 359 . In this battle, 39 out of 40 Starfleet vessels are destroyed.

Jean-Luc Picard serves as Arbiter of Succession to choose the successor of the assassinated Klingon chancellor K'mpec .
2368 The Klingon house of Duras tries to seize control of the Klingon High Council and thereby triggers a civil war. After Romulan support for Duras' forces is cut off, they are quickly defeated by Gowron's supporters. Gowron is appointed leader of the High Council and Chancellor of the Klingon Empire.
Ambassador Spock is spotted on Romulus. He is supporting the reunification of Romulus and Vulcan.
Ambassador Sarek dies at the age of 203.
Wesley Crusher confesses having participated in disguising a fatal accident at Starfleet Academy. He is deferred one year.
2369 Captain Montgomery Scott is found alive aboard USS Jenolen after having spent 74 years as a molecular pattern in the Jenolen's transporter buffer.
The Cardassians withdraw their claim on Bajor. With the end of the occupation , the space station Terok Nor is abandoned, too. At the request of the Bajoran Provisional Government , Starfleet takes over the administration of the station, now called Deep Space Nine . Commander Benjamin Sisko is assigned to command DS9.
The first stable wormhole is discovered near Bajor.
After Kai Opaka's death in the Gamma Quadrant , a power struggle for the succession starts on Bajor.
2370 The Soong-type android Lore is dismantled after trying to lead the Borg into a new campaign.
Scientists find out that extensive use of warp drive systems could damage the structure of subspace . A Federation-wide speed limit of Warp 5.0 is introduced.
An extremist religious group on Bajor, called " The Circle ", tries to overthrow the Bajoran Provisional Government.
Vedek Winn is elected successor of Kai Opaka.
The battle ship USS Defiant NX-74205 is commissioned.
The Dominion from the Gamma Quadrant, beyond the Bajoran Wormhole, tangles with the whole Alpha Quadrant by destroying all ships on "their" side of the passage. They also destroy a Bajoran colony.
2371 The USS Defiant is assigned to Deep Space Nine to defend Bajor and the wormhole in case of a Dominion attack.
USS Voyager disappears without a trace in a mission to the " Badlands ".
A joint fleet of starships from the Romulan Tal Shiar and the Cardassian Obsidian Order is completely destroyed in the attempt to annihilate the homeworld of the Founders of the Dominion.
Benjamin Sisko is promoted Captain.
Worf is promoted Lieutenant Commander.
The Enterprise-D is destroyed by a Klingon Bird-of-Prey while the crew is trying to prevent a planet from being destroyed by a crazy scientist.
2372 The Cardassian military government is overthrown and replaced by a civil government: the Datapa Council .
Relations between the Federation and the Klingon Empire deteriorate after the Klingons have started to invade the Cardassian Union. They terminate the Treaty of Khitomer.
Lieutenant Commander Worf is transferred to Deep Space Nine.
The sixth Enterprise, the NCC-1701-E , is commissioned. Captain Picard assumes command.
2373 The Cardassian Union joins the Dominion. The Klingons are driven out of Cardassian space. Gul Dukat becomes governor of the Cardassian Union.
After months of minor border skirmishes, the Khitomer treaty of 2293 is re-signed by Federation and Klingons.
The Borg start a new invasion on the UFP. The Enterprise under Picard prevents their plan to rewrite history by travelling back in time.
The Romulan Star Empire, the Tholien Assembly , the Miradorn and the Bajoran Provisional Government sign nonaggression treaties with the Dominion.
The conflict between Federation/Klingons and the Dominion leads to an open war.
The Federation station Deep Space Nine is conquered by the Dominion after the Bajoran Wormhole was mined by Starfleet.
2274 Deep Space Nine is retaken by a joint Starfleet/Klingon fleet. The minefield around the wormhole is destroyed.
Gul Dukat is arrested. Gul Damarr takes his place as governor.
Gul Dukat escapes captivity.
Starfleet finds out USS Voyager was not destroyed but ended up in the Delta Quadrant .
After Starfleet uncovers Dominion plans to invade Romulus inspite of the nonaggression treaty, the Romulans join the Federation/Klingon alliance to fight the Dominion.
Starfleet, the Klingons and the Romulans take the offensive by attacking and occupying a Cardassian outpost.
Jadzia Dax is killed in the execution of her duty.
2275 The USS Defiant is destroyed. The Defiant-class starship USS Sao Paulo is assigned to DS9 and renamed Defiant.
; The war in the Alpha Quadrant ends with the Federation/Klingon/Romulan fleet invading Cardassia Prime. Prior to the victory, 800 million Cardassians were killed by Jem'Hadar soldiers.
Lieutenant Commander Worf is appointed Klingon ambassador to the UFP.

The character of Quark proposed adding a 286th rule: "When Morn leaves, it's all over."[38]
The character of Neelix, while posing as the Ferengi Grand Proxy, told Arridor and Kol that the 299th rule was: "Whenever you exploit someone, it never hurts to thank them (that way it's easier to exploit them the next time)."[10]
A conversation between the characters of Nog and Jake Sisko implied the existence of a rule similar to: "Money is money, but females are better."[39]
Each of the rules below was quoted on-screen, but was not formally stated as being one of the Rules of Acquisition and/or was not numbered.
* When the messenger comes to appropriate your profits, kill the messenger.[10]
* Time, like latinum, is a highly limited commodity.[35]

Revised Rules for the Modern Ferengi
A revised list of rules was created by Grand Nagus Zek in the DS9 episode "Prophet Motive". After consulting a Bajoran orb, the Bajoran Prophets changed Zek, eliminating his greed and thirst for profit. Once Zek was restored to his normal self, the original rules were restored and all copies of the revised rules were to be destroyed.[9]
* 1. If they want their money back, give it to them.
* 10. Greed is dead.
* 21. Never place profit before friendship.
* 22. Latinum tarnishes, but family is forever.
* 23. Money can never replace dignity.
* 285. A good deed is its own reward.
