About Me

Good Road Ahead was a jazz-based indie rock band formed in State College, PA. The band began writing material and rehearsing in 2003 after meeting each other through mutual friends. Sharing a love for both aggressive and mellow styles of music, they decided to craft aesthetically diverse original songs that would reflect a wide range of influences. Bringing different thoughts and ideas to the table allowed these three men to create tracks that could at times conjure up comparisons to post-punk bands such as Fugazi, Gang of Four, and Mission of Burma, while at the same time provide a powerful, accessible blast of rock similar to Clutch and Queens of The Stone Age. This eclectic three-piece played numerous shows in central and western Pennsylvania, including the infamous "Moustache Party", and the two-day Chuck's Farm festival held every year just on the outskirts of the Penn State campus. With Jamie and Paul finishing up college in 2005, the members of the band had relocated and moved onto other endeavors. Matt had graduated in 2003 and had opted to move back to his hometown of Boston. Several raw, lo-fi recordings were made in the basement/practice space of the house the band shared. These recordings served as starting points for the tracks the band wanted to eventually bring into a proper studio. Yet due to the relatively short length of time the band was active, they never received the chance to do so. What we are left with are the basement recordings documenting the creative spirit of three friends from different backgrounds collaborating together on a left-of-center project that became a symbol of existential pondering, an awareness of corrupt politics, and the inevitability of moving on.
