Life or something like it...

About Me

I am a 29 year old female attempting to complete a masters degree program here at the University of Oklahoma. I am married. My husband has a son from a previous relationship. It is kind of weird to think of myself as someones stepmom but we get along great. He is very wise for his young age and I just love to sit and talk with him, kids are smarter than most adults realize. May 2006 we had our first baby, Connor William. It has been an amazing experience being pregnant, but I was ready for him to get here! I hope that within two years we are in the position to expand our family, we will have to see. As far as a career after college, I would like to work either in a Federal Government or the State Government agency. A non-profit agency would be just fine, really I really just want to find a job that I feel good doing if not completely love. I believe in fate so wherever I end up is where I was meant to.

You scored as Buddhism. Your beliefs most closely resemble those of Buddhism. Do more research on Buddhism and possibly consider becoming Buddhist, if you are not already. In Buddhism, there are Four Noble Truths: (1) Life is suffering. (2) All suffering is caused by ignorance of the nature of reality and the craving, attachment, and grasping that result from such ignorance. (3) Suffering can be ended by overcoming ignorance and attachment. (4) The path to the suppression of suffering is the Noble Eightfold Path, which consists of right views, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right-mindedness, and right contemplation. These eight are usually divided into three categories that base the Buddhist faith: morality, wisdom, and samadhi, or concentration. In Buddhism, there is no hierarchy, nor caste system; the Buddha taught that one's spiritual worth is not based on birth.

My Interests

Music:

I like a variety of music, but these days you are more likely to find me listening to classic rock. I enjoy a good dance song, although I have not been to a club in ages. I think the last time I went dancing I was with my sister Courtney and we were on fourth street in Sioux City...it has been awhile. Anyways my husband has introduced me to bands and music so different from what I had listened to. The Flaming Lips is probably one of my favorite bands that he has exposed me to. Needless to say my taste in music has expanded :)

Movies:

I love movies! There really are too many to mention. I love the Usual Suspects, Fargo, Eternal Sushine of the Spotless Mind, Sweet Home Alabama, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Briget Jones, Sliding Doors, The Life of David Gale...and so many more. I think one of my favorites as of recently is The Life of David Gale. It is about the death penalty, and since I live in a state that seems to love its capital punishment it would be interesting if what happens in the movie would be able to happen in real life. I have met one man who was on death row for murdering his wife, yet he really was innocent and spent years in prison for a crime he did not do. Another man I met (who has since died of other causes) came within DAYS of being executed for a crime he did not do. He was finally released after years of imprisonment for a crime he did not commit. Some would say that our legal system worked because it did not kill an innocent person, yet I wonder has it worked all the time? Anyways this is a great movie and I recommend seeing it.

Television:

I am a CSI freak, mainly because I would love that job. I also love NCIS, Forensic Files (most of the shows on Courtv), and My Name is Earl (Jason Lee is great).

Books:

I have two favorite authors: Robert A Heinlein and John Irving. Heinlein is more of a sci-fi writer and Irving writes stories about real life (in a way). Time Enough for Love is my favorite Heinlein book and there are quite a few Irving books that are up there. The World According to Garp was my first Irving read and I love the way the writing style is so blunt and to the point. Anyways I like other sci-fi type and government conspiracy type books.

Heroes:

I have one main hero and that is my Dad. He survived a divorce and managed to raise three kids living in his house and help one who had fled to Oklahoma. He is a tower of strength and great wisedom, and without him I could not have made it as far as I have.
