Filmmaker Wesley Wales Anderson was born on 05/01/69 in Harris County, TX. Growing up in Houston, he attended St. John's High School on upper campus, with a reputation of creating elaborate school plays (including a hand-puppet adaptation of the 1980 film The Gambler), later returning to the school location to film the cult classic Rushmore. Wes began his directing career making home movies with his brothers Mel & Eric Chase via super 8, later dabbling in cable access television.
In the late 1980's, Wes attended the University of Texas, where he would soon meet & room with Owen Wilson, close friend & most frequent collaborator as of this time. Begining scripting in 1990, the two later made their film debut with the 1992 film short "Bottle Rocket", a 13 minute black and white film about two young burglars starring Wilson & his younger brother Luke. After being shown through a number of festivals, the project gained the attention of producers Polly Platt & James L. Brooks, with Columbia Pictures eventually offered Anderson a $6 million budget to create a full length version of the story.
