never take life to serious, it takes the fun out

About Me

Richard Lee Wilson was born on May 24, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri. He started playing the guitar at the tender age of 6, where he would steal his older brothers guitar and hide in his closet to avoid getting beaten up if discovered. Cutting his teeth on such blues greats as Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, Howling Wolf, The 3 kings (Albert, B.B. & Freddy) and Jimi Hendrix (to mention just a few). He then played in several blues bands in Kansas city such as The Blues Busters, Red White and Blues, the KC Blues Review. He moved to Houston, Texas at the age of 17, and traveled extensively in the South with bands such as The White Brothers, Texas Hurricane, The Blues Bombers and several other rocking blues bands. Then Richard Lee made his way to Austin, Texas, where he soon formed the band Mopac and the Blues Suburbans. After a couple of years, and some untimely happenings, Richard Lee was forced to retire his axe to care for his wife of 23 years who was dying of breast cancer. Her death in 2001 left Richard alone with 2 young children. Physically and mentally exhausted (and self medicating himself with morphine and alcohol), Richard took the next year off, sent his children to live with his parents, and formed the band Bone Daddy. But he continued the downward spiral into drugs and alcohol and was soon terminated from the band. Richard then tried to clean up and re-join Bone Daddy. But seeing more ghosts than most, he soon found himself back on the same destructive path, and ultimately was fired from the very band that he had developed less than a year before. After losing his wife, children, house, car, and job, he found himself penniless, homeless, and alone, and with the help of the Williamson County judicial system found himself in a court assigned asylum called the Central Texas Treatment Center. After an 8 1/2 month stint Richard Lee was finally released with a bag of clothes and a guitar to live on. Finally, the ghosts at rest, he joined forces with one of Austin Texass premiere rhythm sections, to form the power blues band Perfect Kaos, and began to take Austin, Texas by a storm that it had not seen since the days of Stevie Ray Vaughan or the Fabulous Thunderbirds. This extraordinary guitarist has as much pure passion and truth in his lyrics as the old blues masters themselves, intertwined with the sonic explosion of the rock and roll gods that he followed through life. If despair and passion for life can bring a person to the breaking point, Richard Lee Wilson has definitely seen more than most and can relate the heart wrenching blues as only a true virtuoso guitarist and superb song writing master can. This is truly one of the masters of the blues and blues guitar.
