I've always been a fan collaborating with artists from different genres. One of my goals is to be flexible, so I can play in any situation at any given time. I've had the opportunity to work with many different artist with great talents. I've seen a growing number of people wanting to join heads and work on projects, so that's when I decided to rename my group, RNG - Rich Nakatsu Group.
The group itself is not static like some groups, where they have the same members. However, I do have my core members that help me on my projects, people who know how I want things to sound when I record.
The other nice thing is that, I am not stuck in one particular genre. I believe that exposure to many different types of genres is what makes a musician a musician. It also brings more meaningful appreciation for how music moves others.Does that make sense?
Why this name?
It's really a solo project. I have members come and go as guest artists. Now, I have many people wanting to collaborate, so I've decided on RNG - Rich Nakatsu Group. Kinda hits multiple birds with one stone I guess.
Do you play live?
I've played concerts by requests before. Weddings, weddings, wedding, and more weddings, and some parties. Probably the biggest gig I played was at Seattle Center. Weirdest experience I've had.
Your influences?
I think the best way to see is, what's in my mp3 player? :D Let's see... Judas Priest, Hammerfall, Tak Matumoto, Lots of Joe Satriani, Pink Floyd, David Gilmore...
