Reggae, Hip-hop, funk band out of Los Angeles, CA. Founded by Black Shakespeare in the summer of 2001 to open for reggae/Dub mega star Lee Scratch Perry and Mad Professor at the famous El Rey Theatre in LA. The show was a huge hit and afterwards King Rockahz became regulars on the underground LA music scene for the past 5 years.Combining roots Reggae, Dub, Rock, Funk and Jazz King Rockahs have created a blend of music that has been described as Sly Stone meets Peter Tosh, with Eric Clapton on acid.Each member of King Rockahz brings a unique flavor to the mix.Lead Vocalist Black Shakespeare - commands the stage with his engaging and energetic personality. Shakespeare grew up in Jamaica heavily influenced by reggae music. Moved to LA and has become a successful DJ and Producer. Creating InI Sounds as well as the weekly Chocolate Bar and also has a weekly radio show Truth Seekas 90.7FMGuitarist Marc Black - Grew up in England and moved to LA to pursue his artistic dreams. An accomplished artist, Marcs playing is reminiscent of old school blues/rock guitarist such as Clapton, and Hendrix with a little old school Motown thrown in.Guitarist Colin Shakespeare - His laid back, understated rhythmic playing is reminiscent of vintage Curtis Mayfield. Rarely overplays, his simplistic style fits in perfect contrast to Marcs lead guitar riff.Bassist Will Mack - Grew up in NYC, heavily influenced by jazz, early Motown, Afro-Cuban, funk and 60s rock. His bass is constantly holding down the groove, laid back, steady and smooth.Drummer Ray Rose - Originally from Detriot, Ray is the veteran of the group. Hes traveled around the world playing drums in every possible genre of music. Rays style is fiery and emotional. He brings the energy that keeps the music moving.King Rockahz also feature Charmian Callon on Flute, Ravi Carmen on Reeds, Niki on percussion and many, many other outstanding musicians and vocalist in LAs underground scene.
