I Hear Mice in the Attic, Stomping Like Elephants

About Me

I seem to be pretty happy in my nonsensical private world.. or exploring the regular world when I can do so while being somewhat removed. I am an INTP.

My Interests

I like my art to be functional and my functions to be soulful. ------Biking - Exploring via bicycle is my heaven. I love to find strange, interesting, or even creepy neighborhoods and explore them extensively **** Cooking - creative, ethnic, vegetarian and gourmet - I am proud to have mastered falafel from scratch. I am now conquering baking without refined flours or sugars **** Photography - Well.. I am still teaching myself. I'm using an old Canon T-70. **** Vegetable Gardening - As much as I can in the city. I have become obsessed with heirloom tomatoes.. tomatoes in general. Red, orange, purple, white, pink, green.. *sigh* So beautiful, earthy and powerful. I also grow bell peppers, basil, cilantro and various hot peppers. I am extremely taken with heirloom seed catalogues. **** Reading - "say cheerio to books now; the only things I read are faces." Well... not exactly.... but it does seem to be the price of being more active. Inertia.. a body in motion stays in motion... a body at rest..... you know...blah, blah.... But... I did spend years in seclusion and reading was about all I did... so ... **** I want to get a fishing and crabbing license. **** String theory. I am learning more and more. I hope one day to better grasp it.. of course.. it is all still coming together, really. There are just such amazing ideas that come from this. So many new questions and different takes on old ideas. Gravity being this misunderstood force... perhaps a key to other dimensions... wow. **** Gulabi Kalmi Tea **** I have a growing interest in "The Missouri Militia." **** Local happenings such as the “Jacksonville Film Festival,” “Jacksonville Jazz Festival,” the downtown “Farmers Market” , going to various exhibits and events, “Boomtown Theatre” www.boomtowntheatre.com, etc.. **** OH! Scouring ethnic grocers... OK, OK.. this one will carry my ramblings to new lengths.. I will just say... I can spend hours and hours drinking in with my senses and asking questions. This is a major source of pleasure for me.*************************************************

I'd like to meet:

"He always tipped his hat when he came upon a dog."

Music:

Belle and Sebastian, Camera Obscura, Ben Folds and Ben Folds Five, Van Morrison, Tilly and the Wall, Simon and Garfunkel, Paul Simon, Willie Nelson, The Smiths, Morrissey (Shut up), Steely Dan, Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James, Son House, The Red Onion Jazz Babies, Clarence Williams, Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, Sidney Bechet, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five (and his other older projects), Nick Drake, The Gentle Waves, Rufus Wainwright, Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond, Elliott Smith, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Kenny Rogers (no, I mean.. really.. ), Robert Cray, Cat Power, Donald Fagen, REM, Blur, Otis Redding, John Martyn, Tropic of Cancer, and of course... the lovely Dot Wilder.

Movies:

"Hiding and Seeking" The.. most.. fascinating thing.... Not "Hide and Seek."

Television:

PBS is great. I like their about-as-objective-as-you-can-get documentaries.... with those is my favorite series... "NOVA." I also like "POV" and "Frontline" *** "Dr. Katz" - I know.. it is virtually impossible to find it anymore. I miss it so much. Oh, and for years I was "Ben." *** "Roseanne" - She is a genius, really. Among many things, I respect her for the NON-glamourized introduction of homosexuality to American television. *** "30 Rock" Wonderfully written. Great to see another woman that doesn't make me ashamed of my gender. Yay, Tina Faye! *** Really, though... as far as TV goes, I tend to prefer it to just be pleasant background noise.

Books:

Fiction - Ayn Rand, John Steinbeck, Charles Bukowski, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams *** Non-fiction - Philosophy, Theology, Instructional, The Dictionary *** Right now I am focused on various religious texts; specifically “The Sumerian Texts,” “The Dead Sea Scrolls,” and the “Nag Hammadi Codices.” Cross referencing religious and historical texts is a passion of mine. I am still so much in need of knowledge. – And yes… with these particular texts, I am reading the relevant ideas of Zecharia Sitchin, David Icke and even "loopy" ol' Erich Von Daniken. The more cross referencing you do… the more you open your mind….. the less insane even Von Daniken’s later ideas become. (That's not to say I'm sold on anything.)

Heroes:

Arthur Miller - A truly evolved and great man. I know, because I lived in his shirt pocket for years.
