AEROPLANES IN THE BACKYARD (Teen Sound Records)
The Strange Flowers are back in action with a new album that brings them back to their r’n’r origins. It’s a very fresh and elegant release that revisits all areas of 60’s sound, from hard-garage to psychedelia, from rhythm & blues to country-western. With moods ranging from darkness to light, from colours to black & white, the guys from Pisa go further beyond the clichés of garage revival, and make a step forward into modernity with the unique style that has characterized a remarkable carrier. Thus, having been around for quite a few years, The Strange Flowers are regarded as one of the most original and valuable acts of the psychedelic and garage scene in Europe. Aeroplanes In The Backyard is probably their best release ever. A very nice production under every point of view. Inspired songwriting, beautiful lyrics, a solid and convincing performance, exquisite arrangements, elegant cover art. An absolute must!

THE TALE OF THE STRANGE FLOWERS
Once upon a time there was a kid who had a record player. It swallowed vinyl and spited songs. Music filled childhood’s silence and loneliness. When the kid was old enough, he was given the gift that makes aeroplanes grow in the backyard. Strings and skins vibrated. Their sounds resembled songs of childhood. New voices filled his room, words he had not heard.
A crowd of sensational heroes populated a lonely world. He felt an urgency. It was too strong to stay confined within a little room. He had to get out. Outside he found out he was not lonely. Other had his very same dream and each was trying to pursue it in a different manner. In a little town of central Italy a bunch of kids formed a family. It was only brothers and sisters. Fathers and mothers were too far away. They were in Liverpool, London, Cambridge, Newcastle, New York, San Francisco, L.A., Athens, Seattle, Sidney, even on the Moon, everywhere but not there. How could they manage to reach them? They gathered in garages and spoke out their youth, their rage and their love, trying to imitate the parents they knew only through vinyl their record player kept swallowing with no mercy. Kids formed styles and colours on their parents background. They sang their lives and their dreams.
Then a new brother joined them. He was tall and had large blonde hair. Was from a foreign land and spoke in a different tongue. But some could understand what he said. Together they crossed the border, wearing leather boots and black pants. Shirts out of fashion. They arrived in Germany and played their songs in towns and villages. Black and red vinyl with their music were manufactured, for record players to be fed. Tales spoke about eggman, imaginary girls and boys, astronauts, naked monkeys, vegetables, food, happiness and little sorrows.
They walked streets and drove highways. When some of them was tired, someone younger took his place, for the family to survive. And it survived and lives today with a new shape and the same spirit. New kids feed its soul and tell its tales. Aeroplanes grow in the backyard. They take off towards the clouds, to open a space in the sky for everyone to have a spot in the sunshine. Their spot in the sunshine is a stage. Come visit them and listen to their tales. They may say something about you.
