About Me

I am currently a student at the University of MD School of Nursing, where I am pursuing a career in pediatric oncology nursing. I have danced for the past 19 years with various groups such as the C&C Danco Co, the Towson University Dance Team and the American Dance Company. I have preformed in compeitions throughout the United States, Canada, The United Kingdom and Italy. I just finished my year as Miss Maryland 2006 in the Miss America Organization and I am now onto my next venture as a Washington Redskins Cheerleader! Go Skins!In April of 2005, at the age of 20, I was diagnosed with melanoma, the deadly form of skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer and yet it is one of the most preventable! More people are diagnosed with this each year than breast, prostate, lung, and colon cancer combined and EVERY HOUR of EVERYDAY one of those people DIE from it! I have devoted this site to spreading the message about skin cancer awareness, prevention, detection, reserach and treatment. I don't want people to go through what I have. If you have any questions I am here to help answer them! MY 3 MAIN MESSAGES: (1) Wear sunscreen EVERYDAY SPF 30+, (2) AVOID tanning beds, (3) see a dermatologits at least ONCE a year! If you folow this you are well on your way to help prevent skin cancer.

My Interests

I love to dance. It has allowed to me travel all over the country and the world! I also teach dance and do choreography. I currently coach the Bowie High School Dance Team/Poms! I also enjoy outdoor activites, like fishing, hiking, snowboarding, white water rafting, boating and camping. I love pageants, The Miss America Organization. They are an amazing opportunity to get a message out, to get involved in your community and to bring confidence and poise to young women.My true passion in life is speaking to people about Skin Cancer Awareness. As I was diagnosed with melanoma, I know the dangers, the risks, the truths and the myths of sun exposure. I use my personal experiences to teach teens how they can prevent it.

Music:

COUNTRY MUSIC! This is the best music because it always tells a true story!I like all kinds of music, but country is my favorite! I love George Straight, Allison Kraus, Martina Mcbride, Faith Hill, and ohhhhh that Tim McGraw!

Movies:

Of course being a girl means I love chick flics, but I do love an action movie every now and then! The best movie of all time has to be Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory!(the original) The most recent movie I saw was, "Flicka" a great family movie!

Television:

THE AMAZING RACE! I love this show...I get so into it, and I know that if I got the chance to go on the show I could win! PROJECT RUNWAY and AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL...But most of all GREY'S ANATOMY! This is one of the best shows ever created and you should definately check it out, you will see what the craze is all about.

Books:

Most of the reading I do is in the pages of a medical or nursing book! But I do love to learn something new everyday and in the field of science you can certainly accomplish that.A great book I just read is "It's Not About the Bike," the Lance Armstrong story. It is a page turner!

Heroes:

My heros are my family. They all inspire me and show me how to be a better person. My mom and dad are strong people and have helped me through some tough times. My brother and sister are two of the toughest people I know. They have hearts of gold and I am so lucky and proud to have them apart of my life!To ALL CANCEER Survivors! You are all my heros and you make me want to pursue my dreams even more than I could explain in words. My message is for you and for your children and grandchildren. We will beat this disease and we will be heard! 2015 is right around the corner and just IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES. We will fight the battle against cancer and in 2015 we will have already won!
