recording bands on analog tape, making custom drums, fast old cars and racing them, playing drums, documenting life with photos, sportsman class or vintage drag racing, aviation and flying aimlessly in two-seaters with my brother, getting obsessively into whatever i'm doing, my (future) darkroom, restoring anything that i even remotely give two shits about, designing and building furniture, interior design and thinking about color schemes, super 8, riding bmx bikes no matter how old or big i am because i feel silly on anything else, automotive museums, live music, recording studio construction, working on my vespas and lambretta, doing math in my head, architectural drafting, precise measurements, racing r/c cars, front engine dragsters, tin ceilings, doing tilework, contrast, the smell of race gas and stinky watch bands, attention to detail, woodworking, camping, marching bands!, ropa vieja con arroz blanco y frijoles negros, hanging out in my bedroom listening to records loudly for hours with people who like to hang out in my room and listen to records loudly for hours with me, laying on my bed while listening to a record at the threshold just below speaker distortion and having every kick drum hit and bass guitar note vibrate my bed, realizing that my stereo will never be loud enough even though it is loud and sounds fantastic, paradigm speakers, b and w speakers, hafler pro 500 amps, rogue audio amps, killer hi-fi turntables that i want to buy, old stereo gear that actually sounds good, the right microphone combined with the fitting pre-amp, vintage road race cars, the feeling i get while walking around an unfamiliar city's downtown by myself, my pinball machine, cleaning our workshop and knowing where everything is, riding my vespa over big bridges, big shot beverages, AMC cars, vision street wear canvas shoes, mountains, portland and the northwest in general, denver and its surrounding areas, black cherry soda, walking in the middle of streams, the number twelve and its divisors, polishing aluminum and stainless steel, vintage wooden powerboats, the feeling i get when i arrive at a dragstrip early in the morning and i'm waiting in line with my windows down and smell the exhaust for the first time from the cars warming up in the pits, base-clear automotive paint and trying to get a perfect finish, finding albums that are special to me on vinyl, original pressings of those albums because they actually sound better, making people laugh, algiers point, the marigny, the bywater, royal st., crime scene investigation, custom framing photos, traveling, hating concrete jungles, my friends are the best, personality and connection rather than aesthetics, participating in things within my community, not having to reboot a hundred times per day because i use apple computers, spending the bill money on something enjoyable, wet sanding then polishing, attending saints games, brisket day and crashing on burnout 2 with aj and jessica, the pride that companies and people in general used to take in building and designing anything, playing wide receiver and running precise routes, playing basketball and sinkin' floaters, playing 21 against friends, independent businesses, my wonderful hometown of new orleans, people with a passion, old architecture, glass blocks, old hardware stores that still use manual cash registers, independent ethnic restaurants, suplecs at checkpoint's on mardi gras day, frenchmen st. on halloween, hauling ass down the levee on my bike, new year's and mardi gras, the bloody marys and food at coop's place, barbecues, cookouts, crawfish boils, fish frys, get-togethers, people who can define who they are without listing a band name or genre
Someone who can magically give me the ability to play drums like J. Mascis, Bill Stevenson, or Sara Lund. Meeting the late '90's Laura Ballance would be nice, too.
Certainly, it is an interest. I'm thankful for the era of music I grew up with, because it was a pretty damn good one.
