My 3 sons, my German Shepherd dogs, reading, writing and photography. I try to work in a career around that. I'm a lawyer, primarily estate planning, and I teach online college courses. I like to vegetable garden and I absolutely LOVE trees...I've planted at least 500 in my life.... I own, live with, love, train and compete with my dogs, as well as teach 4-H dog obedience.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Fxq7qPfPY
Pope John Paul II, the Dalai Lama, Jon Anderson...Jesus...Mozart, Michaelangelo...George Patton...George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin...Albert Einstein, Robert Goddard...Ralph Waldo Emerson...Stephen Ambrose...Colonel Max von Stephanitz...
Where do I begin and where do I stop? I have a wide and varied interest in music. Where I begin is far easier than where I stop. It all begins with Yes, the best and most under-rated band in the history of music (everyone should be required to listen, undistracted, to their "Going for the One" album, and read the lyrics while listening...especially to the "Turn of the Century" and "Awaken" tracks). It goes from there to Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Cream and Iron Butterfly. Aerosmith. REM, U2, Black Sabbath, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Queens of the Stone Age, Mozart, Beethoven and Bach. Beck, Moby, Fat Boy Slim. Outkast. Rage Against the Machine, Velvet Revolver. David Bowie. Max Weinberg 7 (the best band on TV) and NOT Paul Schafer's NBC "Orchestra" (the worst band on TV). Tool and Monster Magnet, Steely Dan, Moody Blues, Procol Harum, Grand Funk Railroad (1st 3 albums), Electric Light Orchestra, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Allison Krause & Union Station, Jonny Lang, White Zombie, Rush, Queensryche, Pearl Jam, Collective Soul, Audioslave, The Killers, Foo Fighters... I can go on and on, and will, later...here's more...3 Doors Down, Black Crowes, White Stripes, Beastie Boys, Alice in Chains, Megadeath, Gorillaz, Talking Heads, The Who...
Too many to list right now and listing all my favorite music maxed out the entertainment portion of my brain for now...BUT, the best movie that I have seen in a long time is The 40 Year Old Virgin. Okay, here are some more, stream-of-consciousness style: Wedding Crashers, Team America:World Police, South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut, We Are Spinal Tap, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, Freebie and the Bean, The Wind and the Lion, As Good As It Gets ("I'm drowning here and you're describing the water"...and, the two main things that Jack says to Helen), Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, Memphis Belle, Midway, Battle of the Bulge, Patton. Heat, Goodfellas, Dumb & Dumber, Dazed and Confused, The Wall. Bowfinger, The Jerk ("Navin, I don't want to puke...").
No. 1 hands-down is South Park. I love Monk...who says that OCD is a bad thing? Then, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, the olden-times David Letterman, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Andy Griffith Show, Everybody Loves Raymond, Chappelle,s Show, Reno 911, That 70s Show, Seinfeld, comedies in general...documentaries, some dramas...Boston Legal...American Justice, City Confidential, Cold Case Files...I'll add as they come to me...here's some more...the good incarnations of Saturday Night Live, Comedy Central stand-up specials (Lewis Black, Kathy Griffin...), NCAA basketball and football (mainly U of L, but also March Madness no matter who), NFL football (Packers and Colts), but NOT the NBA or much other sports.
I own hundreds of books and have read most of them. I am usually reading a book at any given time. My favorite...History. Stephen Ambrose is my favorite author. In fact, I think that every American should be required to read two of his books: "Citizen Soldier" and "Undaunted Courage" Ancient history, world history, American history, military history. Biographies. Natural history and science. Paranormal, parapsychology, physic phenomena, UFOs. Humor (Calvin & Hobbes, The Far Side). Fact-based fiction. Very, very, very little, if any fiction.
I'm not into hero worship, never have been. Especially not anyone one in pro sports or other celebrities. As opposed to heroes, I do greatly admire people down through history who have made a difference, big and small, in the lives of others. I should say that I have six personal heroes, though. Three alive and three dead. The three alive: My three sons. The three dead: My father, Robert E. Harris, my father-in-law, John H. Land and my pastor, Frank A. Hoffman...all of them being unsung American heroes and the world misses them, whether it knows it or not.
