THE BAND //
Comparison’s are odious………so we won’t go there……… but like any good head of steam, the momentum behind Sheffield’s The Spires continues to grow. As yet, little known outside of their native Yorkshire, The Spires have created a momentous pressure throughout their home city, and with a soon to be screened video for “Fortune Favours The Brave” under their belts, the band are now at that point where stage craft and belief are no longer strangers, and their finely honed stage set sparkles and crackles from every angle.
Perhaps an indication of just what to expect came at last year’s student fresher’s week gig in Sheffield. As over 800 students arrived to cast their critical gaze over a group with a reputation as Sheffield’s best (as yet) unsigned band, you could sense a tangible shift in mood as those who had gathered went from the mildly curious rapidly dropping their guard as both band and fan bonded in the uninhibited coming together of spectator and artist.
By the end of the evening the stage was awash with the type of fervent, off-their heads scenes that you only associate with more established acts. You could almost write the historical footnote as wave after wave of undiminished delight flowed through the hundreds who attended…..“..and I can remember when I first managed to catch The Spires in concert” could so easily become the emblematic refrain from those who witnessed this event.
With riffs and melodies that stick to your memory gland like putty, The Spires bring a pulsating ebb and flow to every element of their work, both layered and complex, but always with an eye to the melodic undercurrent that follows whatever creative path The Spires feel compelled to pursue.
Rising above the volatile and fragile pressures of whatever happens to be currently fashionable, The Spires are one of that select band of artists whose work is neither transitory or disposable. They have created their own unique landscape that will draw you in and reward you again, and again, and again..

The Spires Live on Hallam FM

"We have found an unsigned band that sound absolutely amazing! We have had hundreds of entries. I am pleased to anounce that we have the best unsigned act in South Yorkshire supporting INXS at the City hall. THE SPIRES!! ''
[Big John at Breakfast, Hallam FM]

The Spires @ The Boardwalk, Sheffield

"The Spires kicked out a 24 carat hatrick. A hot chunk of rock that won me over completely. The Spires have killer tunes."
[Radio Coma Magazine]

The Spires @ Bar Matrix, Sheffield

Here tonight are the Spires. A band with something to say, and more importantly a band with something worth listening to, so worth listening to in fact that tonight they get an encore. The standout track of the evening being the edgy and Cure inspired ’17 Years’. Musically tighter than Fern Britten’s size ten cocktail dress, they play with an energy that only rightly justified self confidence can bring. This is certainly a band to make you stop and think.
[Tom Bowen, Sandman Magazine]

The Spires @ The Leadmill, Sheffield

The local support for the mid week Leadmill gig, The Spires are one of the most engaging and entertaining bands on the Sheffield circuit at present. This electro-rock outfit draw influences from four decades of music, throw it into the melting pot with nitro-glycerine until it explodes in an adrenaline fuelled performance that gives you the buzz live music is intended to do. This electro-rock outfit has a distinguished sound that pushes the boundaries of rock-pop. The guitars thrash and grind with heavy drums and swirling keyboard, and a buoyant front man not only draws in the crowd with his energetic rapport, but can also hold a note. Exhausting.
