Ahmond

Singer-Songwriter AHMOND has become a regular in New Yorks live music scene since he first arrived in the Big Apple in 2003 playing gigs in such iconic haunts as the CBGBs Downstairs Lounge, The Knitting Factory, The Bitter End, and Acme Underground. He creates a unique sound with elements of folk-influenced rock, alternative, and world music. His influences range from Kate Bush and Brit Rock to vocalizations done by the African BaAka people . He is sometimes compared to Seal, Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright, Tracey Chapman, Nick Drake, and Ani Difranco. Born in Arizona, Ahmond was a creative, but solitary youth. He was featured in the CBS drama Having Our Say where he acted opposite Ruby Dee and Amy Madigan. He also starred in commercials and an independent short film titled Swing. He studied Music and English at Georgia State University where he discovered his six-stringed soul mate, the guitar. He then traveled through Europe playing in Acoustic venues as a solo act. Ahmond began his professional music career composing music for a social awareness theater company called En-Acte in Atlanta. He played solo shows at local venues such as Eddie's Attic (where songwriters like Shawn Mullins and John Mayer got their start), and performed on the main stage of the 2002 Atlanta Pride Festival. Ahmond's process involves as much of his spiritual side as it does his musical instincts and real-world insights. "Ahmond's music takes me to a remarkably SAFE place," one of his fans has said, "where I suddenly feel eminently equipped to deal with the difficulties of the world because I'm in touch with something much bigger. His music will be heard in the HBO special Making Rome, a behind-the-scene's look at HBO's new series. The special will begin airing on HBO Aug. 11, at 10:30 p.m.
