Ethan

I've chosen the red pill.

About Me

An admissions counselor and a student of philosophy who has found a permanent home in Higher Education. I am a social and mental libertine. I question everything. I'm an empirical learner. I LIVE, not exist. I rationally believe in love and optimism. I am quite different. I'm a passionate communicator. I believe in self-designated morale and virtue, not tradition. I have my own opinion though would love to hear yours. I surround myself with what I belive to be aesthetic. I have a life plan. My goal is happiness and the pursuit of a life well lived. You will never, in my life, see me living the American Dream. I've self-constructed my own Utopia. I look forward to going to work. I despise business even though I have a degree in it. I will never follow. I'm free-minded agnostic and do not believe in organized religion. I am a firm believer in Enlightenment and Nietzsche's concept of the Ubermensch. I prefer the fine arts to sports for many reasons. I do not care about materialism or money. I admire simplicity. I am open minded to the new. Chances are I love you even if I do not know you. I am highly compassionate for those deserving compassion but I do not pity. Ten times out of ten I prefer rain to sunshine. I will dress up when comfortable clothes would easily suffice. My world is a balance between realism and aesthetic imagination. I believe completely in free-will; life is what you make of it, and that fate, for the most part, is the excuse of the lazy, sublime and unenthusiastic who would rather have something other than themselves in control of their lives.

My Interests

Philosophy, intellectual conversation, questioning the unknown and discovering the known, reading, nonconformity, literature, European culture, Wes Anderson, dressing up, living for myself, classical music, the fine arts, imported bier, handmade cigars, the great outdoors, jogging, getting up early, random adventures and travel, broadening my horizons, constantly learning something; building a stronger intellect, constructing my opinion, the snow, melancholy / depressing music, rainy gloom, long destinationless walks, continuously finding myself, espresso, making people laugh, the guitar, making a random friend, going to a symphony orchestra, writing *new*, driving around with the top down, coffee shops, following happiness and will, and (believe it or not) my career.

I'd like to meet:

Those with a philosophical mindframe and the unquenchable urge to find answers and know truths. I've unfortunately met few of these people. The majority seem to take the blue pill.

Music:

Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Ravel, Beethoven, Bartok, Strauss Jr., Satie, Chopin, Rossini, Brahms, Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Schubert, The Beatles, The Beta Band, Coldplay, Oasis, The Shins, Radiohead, Norah Jones, Sigur Ros, Jon Brion, Jeff Buckley, Sufjan Stevens, Elliot Smith, Dave Matthews, O.A.R., Nick Drake, Andrew Bird, Wilco, David Gray, Bob Dylan, Damien Rice, Aqualung, James Blunt, Iron and Wine, Frank Sinatra, Bright Eyes, Badly Drawn Boy, Amos Lee, The Chieftains, Portishead, The White Stripes, John Lennon, Roco DeLuca and the Burden, Ray Lamontagne, Massive Attack, The Flaming Lips, The Velvet Underground, The Decemberists, Mark Mothersbaugh, Rage Against the Machine, The Doors, The Strokes, The Grateful Dead, Phish, Bob Marley, Eric Hutchinson, Pink Floyd, The Hives, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Olivia Tremor Control, New Porographers, Koko Taylor, Eric Clapton, The Gypsey Kings, Rob Crabtree, Hilario Duran, Belle and Sebastian, the Kronos Quartet.
