______the name is somewhat new, but achilles tenderloin has been a part of
richmond's music scene for several years. as far as influences go, there are so
many that to begin listing them would only cheat any i might fail to mention; but
i am equally grateful to and resentful of all of them. i'm a nerdy, wordy guy, for
the most part, and my primary musical focus had always been the songwriting
end of things until about two years ago when i finally began to come into my
own as a guitarist. though i'm not a great collaborator and almost always prefer
to play solo, there are very few things i enjoy more than meeting other musicians
and picking their brains. i am a great lover of live, local music and would be
happy to help anyone find a niche for themselves in richmond's music scene. i generally play live in richmond between three and five times a week. charlie's coffee bar , one venue i frequent, is open to all ages. i hosted the open mic night there from april of 2004 to october of 2006. the open mic is still up and running and you can almost always catch me there on thursday evenings. i can also be caught playing with myself at the deep end & friends' open mic most thursday nights, at doc handy's on north e street, richmond.
"The Bath"
is a forty minute, ten track album i put together in the summer of 2005. the recordings are high quality, produced by tony barnett of hashbury studios , but wholly organic, consisting of simultaneously recorded vocal and guitar tracks; and with only one exception, all songs on the album are consecutive first takes. my style has changed considerably since the time "the bath" was recorded, so if you want to hear what achilles tenderloin sounds like now, you'll just have to get ahold of me, or wait for the release of my next album, "blind oedi and the case of the secret carnival," which i hope to lay down sometime this spring.
