HATETIMESNINE

WE ARE THEY.

About Me

Hate Times Nine started out as a recording project by members Travis Neal and Tracy Swider in San Diego CA, in late 2005. After a month in the studio and recording a 3 song demo it was evident that the songs and sound had definite potential. Most of the feedback from friends and colleagues were that we needed to form a band and get our asses onstage.
So the work began.
As we were writing and recording more songs we were putting together musicians that would fit the style and direction of the band. Shane Monaghan (bass) had been a long time friend of Travis's and had played in other bands with him in the past. Jon Dette (drummer) worked at the same studio as Tracy and they had discussed working on projects together before H8X9 was in the works. He also had played in a band (Pushed) with Travis so it was an easy choice. Jef (guitar) played in a band that rehearsed in the same complex that the recording studio was in where Jon and Tracy worked. Tracy approached him about the band and he agreed to come and give it a try.
We were contacted by a promoter that had heard the demo to see if we would be interested in playing a show at a convention in Las Vegas that would have major acts on the bill. We thought it would be a great opportunity so we booked four warmup gigs to get our live show together before we were thrown into the lions den.
After all the live shows were done Jon and H8X9 had a parting of ways. We came to the conclusion that we just weren't on the same musical page. So the search for a new drummer began. After many auditions with drummer after drummer Travis told Tracy about a drummer (Mikey) that he knew through mutual friends. At the Time Mikey was playing in the band "Discord", but was willing to come try out for the band. At the audition Mikey blew everyone away and we knew immediately that he was a perfect fit for H8X9. We asked him to join and he accepted. This was in mid to late 2006.
We started playing live shows with the new lineup and had rave reviews from our fans. After about six months of touring we knew that we had to release a CD with all the new material we had been working on and playing live. Tracy had engineered and produced all the original demos and he was familiar with the sound and direction already, so it was decided that he would produce the CD. We recorded the drums at a studio (Flight 19) in Escondido, north of San Diego and then finished all the other recording at Tracy's studio in Los Angeles.
That brings us up to date.
