About Me

Music has been good to me. It has taken me to fantastic places, filled my life with beautiful people and been kind enough to pay my rent and gas bills. As a musical pupa, I played piano and flute and spent hours listening to the radio waiting for whatever song I had become obsessed with that week. At 13, I stole my first guitar and started developing bad technique. After an epiphany over a bowl of cereal in the Adirondack Mountains, I realized the John Coltrane was a bad dude. I spent five or so years sitting in at jazz jam sessions in Pittsburgh with innovators young and old. At 21, I found myself in Ghana studying music and ethnomusicology. Following trips took me to Spain, Morocco, and Brazil. Currently, I divide my time working towards a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology at the University of Pittsburgh and playing music. I'm thankful for this life in music.Friends and Musical Cohorts: Nate Peck (bass), Mike Murray (piano), Tony DePaolis (bass), Dave Throckmorton (drums), Paul Thompson (bass), Jacob Yoffee (sax), Sean Jones (trumpet), Howie Alexander (piano), Chris Hemingway (alto sax), Jeff Burman (percussion), Jim Dispirito (percussion), Skip Sanders (B-3), Jeff Grubbs (bass), Alex Peck (drums), Jevon Rushton (drums), Tom Wendt (drums), Greg Humphries (drums), Roger Humphries (drums), Dwayne Dolphin (Bass), Lindsey Horner (bass), Jimmy Ponder (guitar), Joe Arnold (violin), and Rusted Root
