Cisco and Funk are two Southern California young radio vets who have worked individually at various stations in Ventura, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Albequerque and Seattle. On the CURB with Cisco & Funk (formerly Freshly Squeezed) is a new music experiment that heavily relies on listener participation. We encourage our listeners to use every means of communication to give us feedback through e-mail, instant messages, skype or right here through MySpace. The program is an opportunity for the listeners to see the results of their listenership.
Cosco & Funk tend to play a lot of the music that is being pushed by the record labels, like all radio stations do. But, they personally search MySpace weekly for new music. Sometimes they'll play deep cuts or b-sides from well known artists, not to mention some of our local favorites. It really is fresh entertainment and is a new music experiment.
On some days Cisco & Funk will un-wrap CDs and throw them right on the air, using the listener feedback to gauge the song. Not all music that gets aired on their new show On the CURB with Cisco & Funk (formerly Freshly Squeezed) will make it into regular rotation but we use the show to highlight music that might work. Honestly, anything can work, but they like to keep it semi rock leaning so that the station's fulltime listeners wont stray from the show. Again, airing the listener feedback is key. Constant interaction with the listeners never giving their own opinions so the listeners know Its all about the listener.
Cisco & Funk extremely happy with the response that they are getting from the listeners. Who doesn't love to hear themselves giving their opinion on the air and know that theyre a real part of how the show and the station sound? Listeners tend to be tremendously passionate about some song so On the CURB with Cisco & Funk (formerly Freshly Squeezed) takes that feedback and tries to find songs that might match what is charting so the station can find out exactly what our listeners want to hear. Its all an experiment to determine listener wants and likes.
