The Formation Records Group is a timeless landmark in British break beat music with a reputation throughout the scene as being one of the most respected and longest standing labels in the world. Throughout the years, Formation has always remained true to the spirit of underground dance music and never sold out. Having battled through over ten years of beats, breaks and bass, The Formation Group have survived the rough and celebrated the smooth and after having recently celebrating the 100th release, everyone at Formation has their sights set on the 200th release and look forward to another ten years at the forefront of Drum & Bass. 2006 looks set to be a another memorable year, with the Formation Group now firing from five cylinders. Already established labels Formation, Reformed and New Identity are loaded with fresh beats for the New Year, while 2006 sees the revival of 5HQ Recordings as well as the launch of World & Drum & Bass Recordings. 5HQ Recordings was launched shortly after 5HQ, the record shop in Leicester City Centre was established, way back in 1985. Initially set up as a way of raising the shops profile, 5HQ Recordings has been through a quiet spell of late but is set for a 2006 come back. The launch of The World of Drum & Bass Recordings is particularly significant. Its legacy has outlived many of the original artists whom appeared on the highly acclaimed box set album, which included an extensive directory of the world’s drum & bass DJ’s, Producers, Record Labels and anything else related to the global community we have within our scene. So having kept the World of Drum & Bass alive with countless tours as well the odd remix EP, we thought it was about time we crowned this movement with its very own label. 2006… watch this space!
