Profile GeneratorRecuses was formed in the fall of 2004. Back then the band consisted of a guitar player (Mark Sloot), a bass player (Richard Sloot) and a drummer (Hidde Kleijer). Neither of them had ever played in a band so they had to start from scratch. In the beginning they focused on covers of Deftones, Papa Roach, POD and Linkin Park, but the real goal was to write their own songs and so they did. It was hard at first but it was much more satisfying than playing covers. The songs developed rapidly and the band started looking for a singer. After a long search Hidde introduced Roy Veenstra to the band. He had a great voice and he was also a good guitar player, but musically he didn’t fit in with the rest of the band. He didn’t want to rap or scream nor did he want to make the rough songs the rest of the band wanted to. So eventually Roy left the band and the search for a singer continued.
In the summer of 2005 the search was finally over. Hidde brought his cousin and friend Wiard Jorritsma to a rehearsal. The band’s music was exactly his style and he also knew all the covers they played. When they started playing Southtown from POD, he decided to take a shot and sing along. Though pitching was not his strongest point, his timing was almost perfect. Every band member was very satisfied and after some more rehearsals Wiard joined the band. Finally, Recuses was complete.
