Add to My Profile | More Videos Here is my makeshift bio.....Coming straight out of the mean streets of Glendale, Mike Hemp was one of the lucky ones to make it out of the hood. While most of his friends either ended up in jail, dead, or at Glendale Community College, Mike Hemp chose to take a different route, Music. Mike started dj'ing in late 1995 when he was 15 years old. He borrowed Dope-E's first starter decks when dope got his 12's and it was on from there. He went to Beat Non Stop in Melrose swooped his first few hardcore records and started to get crackin. (PS. The first 2 hardcore cuts were a Rob Gee record and a Speed Freak record. They didn't go together because of speeds but he didn't know any better at the time!) Picked up more and more records over the next few years and recorded his first real demo. During that time, L.A. was having the Powertools Dj Contest on Power 106 and Mike submitted his mix. Luckily, his mix was one of the few that was chosen to be played over the air! It was really cool to get props on the radio and especially on Powertools because he listened to that show since ever since he learned about electronic music.......1997 , 1998, and 1999........ - The powertools and world records dj battle years - At this time, Mike was attending Hardcore partys but had no connections to play at any shows. So, he turned to where ever he could play. At this time, Powertools and World Records were having open dj contests to whoever wanted to sign up. Since he had no hardcore gigs, he had to try to make something happen at these battles. Since the dj's who would do all the tricks and skratchin would get the most attention, thats what he focused on. This pretty much helped develop his style into what you see today. He ended winning one of the World Record battles after placing 2nd,3rd, and 4th for a few years. .......2000...... - Mike and Dope-E got a demo together, some cool covers with a naked Angel Veil on the cover, and started slammin them all over L.A. It was the first time people really heard of him or dope so they were surprised that they could actually mix and skratch. Most times when you get a demo from somebody that you never heard of, its a starter mix from a beginning dj. After getting the tape out, Mike finally got his first night gig from Pheline at a monthly that they were doing called Detour at the Fox Theatre. It was a cool gig but it made Mike realize that he needed more records and really needed to dig in the crates to find some stuff worth playing......2001...... - Continued to practice and played some gigs here and there. Played some of the Hardcore day gatherings thanks to Roger, Menphisto, Abel, J-Sin, and Art. That helped meet a few more connects and continued to pass out more demos. .......2002........ - Passed out more cd's. Created the Law and Disorder Hardcore party series. Law and Disorder 1 popped off in Downtown L.A and was fuckin dope. That was his first show and it went great! Purchased a MPC 2000XL and started making some beats. .......2003....... - Passed out more cd's and made more contacts. Mike did Law and Disorder 2 and that went fuckin great! There was about 650 hardcore mf'ers who came to support the show. Threw a new years show with Dr. Freeclouds called Hardcore will never die. Sick show at the Orion. Still working on beats at home.......2004....... - Continued to practice and work on music. Mike did Law and Disorder 3 in Los Angeles and that was awesome as well! Great vibe, lots of nos, and Dan Efex! Late in the year, Mike and Dope along with Omar Santana, started production on their first hardcore battle record - Weapons of Mass Destruction. Did "Helloween" hardcore show with Dr. Freeclouds in October. We brought down the Horrorist for that one. Dope show! .......2005....... - What a great year! His first record came out in march - Weapons of Mass Destruction - and sold a bunch of units!! We were very happy that it did so well. Played a bunch out of town gigs - This year Mike played in - Montreal, Quebec City, New York City , New Jersey , Philadelphia, Arizona, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. Good times. Working on the next weapons of mass destruction record among other projects.2006........ - The highlite of 2006 for me was graduating from the Recording Engineer program of Musicians Institute in Hollywood. I was there full time non stop putting in mad fuckin studio work and learning and absorbing everything about audio that I could. Probably the best move I've made in my life. I thought I knew about audio before I got there but after going five days a week for 5/6/7 hours a day for all those months, its on a whole diff. level now. I also picked up the Virus TI this year!2007......So far completeing some tracks and this is the year of some proper mike hemp releases on wax. Stay tuned.The ex Mrs. Mike Hemp...Lily Allen
