About Me
There is great debate among philosophers as to the initial reason that the mullet came about. Many believe that it was born of necessity and may even have roots to its aquatic mate, the mullet fish. It is believed that mullet fishers, in whatever part of the country mullet hang out, had a terrible time with sunburn on their necks while they hunted their slippery prey. These cunning fisherman discovered that by growing their hair long in the back they were able to protect their sensitive neck skin. (We all know how sensitive the neck skin is.) And so was born the mullet. Many odd variations have come from this mullet.Another school of thought says that the mullet is simply a form of expression that evolved from the pop culture of the 80's. The mullet says hey world, I'm gonna rebel . . . . sort of, . . . . . but not really and this is the best that I could come up with. A great example of this is what is referred to today as the businessman's safety cut. Trim and combed on the top, but a little rebellion hanging off the back. It can easily be tucked away from 9 to 5, but after that, its "Let the Good Times Roll." This mullet, much like the aforementioned fisherman's mullet, has spawned a plethora of mullet variations of its own.
It is difficult to trace the origins of the mullet, though. It is an elusive cut, and sometimes wearers of mullets are completely unaware of their existence. Many mullets are simply born out of laziness or stupidity. Maybe it’s just that some mullet wearers do not want to sit around in the barber shop long enough to snip off the tresses in the back. Or maybe they think that the 'do makes them ultra-attractive (which is almost never the case). Whatever the reason, mullets have arrived and they are here to stay.As the '90's have rolled own, mullets have taken on a number of different forms than their original '80's looks. Sometimes there is thought put into the mullets of the '90's, but as the classifications will show you, there really is no rhyme or reason. It seems now that mullet wearers don't shape the mullet, but rather that mullets shape the wearer. Hence the easier classifications of mullets. Not only is the general appearance a tell tale sign anymore. Many mullets have characteristics which their wearers exhibit once they have established their mullets. This is evident in camaro mullets and soccer rocker mullets especially. It is weird but true, similar mullet wearers share similar overall appearances, likes, dislikes, hang out spots, and sporting events. Who knows, maybe this is a world wide mullet conspiracy.
