About Me

Originally, I put a profile on Myspace to stay in touch with friends. After a few times here I found profiles of people that I found interesting. Some were new to me and some familiar, like old friends from the past. I realize that there are unscrupulous types that spam and hijack profiles and others that are just head hunters. Seems like it's the same in the real world too, so it's no big deal, if you pay attention to what your doing. It's still an interesting way of communicating for now.
This is my personal profile so, of course, my family and friends are first on the list and everyone else can fight it out for the rest of the real estate. That doesn't mean I like someone more or less. It's just that I know some of these folks better than others. Those buried in the background are pretty interesting folk and some even as much as those close to me, so check 'em out! Some are about people I'm interested in. Maybe you'll find something or someone you're looking for.
Also, I've linked to some video favorites if you want to see something a little different and there's some music that you can let play in the background if you find it to your liking. Too bad the player isn't a little more dependable, but what do you expect for free!
If you're from Ireland you might be thinking that Teige is a given name meaning something like poet or philosopher. Well, it seems like some Viking ancestors got bored with the raping and pillaging and decided to bring the name back to Norway where it became a family name. Now you can find a few of us scattered all over the planet. Once in a while a Teige excels, like Karel, the Czeck modernist, or the biochemist Markus, the actresses Jan and Laura, the physicist Scott or computer scientist, Tino . These folks are probably as far removed from me, relative wise, as you are, but the name is attached to all different types!
Born and raised a Teige, in a town called Wausau, Wisconsin. There are two sisters older than me and a younger brother. Seems like we all took turns being the black sheep at one point or another, except for my brother. He must have seen us screwing up and headed the other way.
I dodged cowpies and snowballs for the first 14 years of life. The next five or six years were spent just across the road from the white water of the McKenzie River. That's in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range in Oregon. What a great place to live if you like to be outdoors. Mountains, waterfalls, white water, hot springs, lavabeds, glaciers and just about any other kind of setting you can imagine, all within a couple of hours drive!
Around '78 I headed to the Jacksonville, FL area. What a drastic change from the wilds of Oregon! Flat, hot and humid... Folks told me I'd get used to it soon. That was over 30 years ago and I'm starting to think they might have been bullshitting me!
Along the way I've met a lot people, mostly good and a few rotten to the core, but I've tried to learn what I could from everyone.
A lot of my 20's were spent partying hard. I still like to make the rounds once in a while. Can't quite keep up like I used to, but I have my fun. Guess if I want to survive for a few more years without life support I'll have to accept some changes. That might sound like I'm getting old, (don't most of us?), but I don't usually feel that way.
Sometimes I enjoy getting my hands greasy on an old car or bike. The flowing fenders in the 30's, sleek curves of the 40's, the heavy chrome of the 50's or the muscle of the 60's are all like aphrodisiacs to me. How does that song go,..."Love is a many 'fendered' thing...". I like that I can work on them with the equipment at hand instead of having to trust them to someone else with the latest diagnostic computers. I'd rather not have anyone else messing with my vehicle unless it's just to give me a hand on some of the heavy lifting.
I try to keep them as original as possible, but I'll restify if the situation dictates. Some of them can really benefit from the upgrades.
Sure do miss getting together with friends, breaking out a few instruments and practicing vocal harmonies. Maybe pinching the wind up the intracoastal with a few people, a couple of acoustic guitars and ... well you get the idea.
My guitar playing skills aren't highly polished, but I can hold my own with chords and some runs if I've practiced. I'm sure it would help if I'd have learned to read music or taken lessons, but I've gotten by alright. I've been in a few small local bands that did private parties, which usually meant the venue was one of our back yards.
Spent a little time in the Big Orange Chorus, which performs barbershop a cappella arrangements. I wanted the vocal practice and it was a kick to hear a hundred plus voices in four part harmony! At one point we sang 3 parts and you could hear the 4th part ring! Work didn't allow for the necessary travel to concerts, so I had to give that up.
There was, also, a Celtic band that I got talked into. I was the only non-Irish member in the band. At first I felt out of place, but the guys were great. What a work out some of the song were for a novice. Seemed like a lot of them required a chord change for every beat! Practice, practice, practice and eventually we could listen to the tape play back and were surprised at how good it sounded. Lots of sweet harmonies for us there, too!
What has changed all of that? Sometimes friends getting too busy with other obligations like families and work schedules. Sometimes my work schedule getting in the way until I'd get too burned out. Another stumbling block was excessive partying. In a couple of bands our practice sessions were an hour drive each way. Showing up to make music and watching some of the guys doing a line, a shot and then maybe remembering a line or two of the song, giving up on that and doing another line... Well, I got tired of driving home at 3:00 in the morning and not having accomplished anything. It would have been different if I'd been planning on going there just to party in the first place, but then I would have joined in and found a comfortable spot to crash instead of driving home.
