About Me

Maria Armoudian is a Commissioner for the City of Los Angeles Environmental Affairs Commission, a singer/songwriter, a journalist and a Ph.D. student at the University of Southern California. As a journalist, Armoudian hosts and produces the Insighters, a weekly, drive-time public affairs show for Pacifica Radio’s KPFK, which is heard on two frequencies – in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Her articles have been published by the New York Times syndicate, the Los Angeles Times Syndicate, Salon.com, Daily Variety, Billboard and the Progressive Magazine. She also serves or has served on a number of nonprofit boards, including Pacifica Foundation, KPFK (was Vice Chair), the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, and the Southern California Chapter of the Americans for Democratic Action where she has served as both President and Vice President. Prior to entering the Ph.D. program, Armoudian worked for the California Legislature for eight years, conducting research, and writing and managing legislation. Her musical debut is called “Life in the New World,” and is available online at CDbaby.com as well as in select retail outlets in Southern California.
