About Me

Note: AdBlockers may cause audio controls below to disappear
When I was a kid I never wanted to be a policeman or astronaut. I wanted to be an inventor. I seemed to have a knack for looking at things in a slightly different way. So I finally ended up in computers, inventing stuff and solving stuff. That's the life. Or was. The future has just opened up and has yet to be seen.
I also like to Dance. Swing, Lindy, Balboa, Blues, Ballroom, Folk, Contra, whatever. Not into performance and show off. Just for fun and connection and the high that dancers know about. I need at least a weekly fix of dance. Want to go dancing. Message me.
I'm as comfortable slugging watching SciFi as I am on a trip canoeing or birding as I am digging around in the bowels of my computer. I like doing sports but not the syndicated TV stuff. I have progressive political opinions and enjoy the occasional peace march. I get along with most folks pretty well and enjoy being friends with anyone who is honest and sharing. I tend to be quiet in new situations but people who get to know me will often forget that part of me.
I also care a lot. And think a lot.

If you want to chat, great; or just be in my network, that's fine 2. If you do message me and I don't get back immediately, something might have come up. I'll get back.
..
If you have some consuming agenda - Like making money, finding an overseas husband, getting me to market your band, vociferous obdurate sex (who just said that?) and so on - then ... good luck. These are all good things but I'm just not interested in consuming agendas. I may not get back.
My editor was me. And designed for FireFox 1st, IE 2nd.

My Interests

..

Nature, naturism, water, water everywhere, especially rain, raptors, recursion, civil rights, connections, computers, MVS, my PDA, front porch swings, Paganism, poly, quirky people, Quakerism, Socialism, sociobiology, social activism, sushi, the young of heart, the wisdom of years, hoofers, hooters, footers, fools, tools, and (oh yeah) natural dancing, of course.

I am 49.02761835% Weird

Normal enough to know that I'm in the Web of Wyrd
But maybe just damn weird enough to do something with it!
Beowulf: "Goeth ever Wyrd as she shall!"

If you want to know more about me or you really like quizzes then you might try browsing my OKCupid site. You can click here to get there .

I'd like to meet:

Stevie Nicks

And open minded folks.

Music:

I like Rhythm and Blues, Retro, Big Band, Rock and Roll and any music that makes me want to move or connect. Stevie Nicks, Bonnie Rait and so many others.

I heartily enjoy music like the following:

Don't Worry So Much by Indigo
Ability To Swing by Patti Austin
Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickins by Lisa Stansfield

Movies:

For pure zoning out, I love fantasy and sci-fi and I'll veg on almost anything. Otherwise the more a movie moves me the more I like it. Deep, dark, light, introspective, revealing. I want to believe when I watch a movie so I notice inconsistency and invalidity as well as understanding and basis. I want to cry or laugh and mean it.
I don't remember all those movies I loved so I'll start a list:

The Big Easy;
Enemy Mine;
Riding in Cars with Boys;
Tango Bar;
2001 A Space Odyssey;
;
;

Television:

Deep Space Nine;
Becker;
Carnivale;
Animal Planet;
Will and Grace;
Seinfeld;
Friends;
CNN;
Charmed;
HBO's Real Sex;
Important News;
The Olympics;

I really dislike the current wave of reality shows.

Books:

I buy a lot of books, start them and never finish.
OH well.
I like Sci Fi, Deep Ecology, Alternative and What my friends recommend.
Picking one reflective book off of each shelf in my house I come up with:
Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlen
Silent Spring by Rachel Carson
Learning How to Learn-Psychology & Spirituality the Sufi Way by Idries Shah
Carpentry by Feirer Hutchings
The People's Doonesbury by G.B. Trudeau
Wingspan - Inside the Men's Movement by Christopher Harding
Webster's 2nd Universal Unabridged Dictionary
The Lorax by Dr. Seus
Candles in the Dark by Philadelphia Yearly Friends Meeting
Naturalist by Edward O. Wilson
The Honest Herbal by Varro Tyler
Exploring the Physics of the Unknown Universe (by my dad)
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce
Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce
Assembly Language Fundamentals by Yarmish
Selected Poems and Letters of John Keats
The Telling by Ursala K. Leguin
Reviving Ophelia by Mary Pipher
Diet for a Small Planet by Frances Moore Lappe
Natural Magic by Doreen Valiente
Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler
Ornithology by Pettingill and Burgess
Composting to Reduce the Waste Stream by NRAEA Cooperative Extension

Heroes:

.. People who truly walk their talk ..

Such as the CPT 4
who knew they might and did get abducted
while working for Peace in Iraq.
Tom Fox - The Quaker among the 4 was executed Friday March 11th.
His daughter tells us he would not have wanted us to retaliate on his behalf.
We are waiting to see the fate of the other three.
These people are heroes
because they really care and choose their lives to show it.

Age and Prejudice?

To answer the question on what prejudice is, it seems to me that the most important element, as far as society is concerned, is how we publicly express our views and how we choose to judge other peopl...

Scared of Corporate America

For a while now, I've grown to be scared of corporate America.   It was such a grand idea and took us from a tough place to a great place. Only now it's bringing us back to a tough place. Our na...
