Bitch, don't you know you're orange?

About Me

Hello strangers!
My name is Erin. I own and operate Alter Ego, an indy friendly comic book store in Marion, Iowa.
I opened my store in 1996, which means this is my 12th glorious year of bringing comics to the masses.
By "glorious", I mean "sometimes difficult" and by "masses" I mean the Cedar Rapids/Marion metropolitan area.
I'm married to a swell fella' by the name of Jeremy. Togetehr we enjoy playing video games and going to comic book conventions. This year we celebrated 11 years of marriage.
Check out Jeremy's MySpace page here!
I don't have any children, don't plan on having any children and don't really like children. I do have a dog though, and she is pretty cute. If you visit Alter Ego when I'm working you'll probably meet her.
I didn't always want to own a comic book store. For a while I wanted to be an interior decorator. And then a scientist. And then maybe a teacher. And then a travel agent. And then a hockey player. Or a pirate. Not the kind that sails the high seas plundering, but the kind that illegaly copies movies and sells them. But, I ended up selling comics and it's not so bad. I meet good people, new products come out every week, I get to go to conventions and have my store pay for it, I get to bring my dog to work...it's not bad at all. Except when I actually have to do real work. That's not cool.
I like to travel, maybe a little too much. I like eating at restaurants, maybe a little too much. I like shopping at Target, maybe a little too much.

My Interests

Nintendo DS Games (Professor Layton, Animal Crossing, Brain Age & Cooking Mama), XBox 360 games (Rock Band, Bully, Viva Pinata, Beautiful Katamari, Guitar Hero), bidding for Tokidoki items on eBay, reading, cartography, my sweet pug Paxton, riding roller coasters, art by Becky Danielson, wrapping presents, unwrapping presents, Swatch watches, pancake eating contests & folding socks.

$10.00 Alter Ego Certificate Is Up For Grabs!

I know so little about comic books, it's really very embarassing. Despite this, my friends at The Pull List have asked me to contribute to their new blog feature: Cover Story. The idea is simple,...

Why Iowa Isnt the Most Awesome Place Ever: Reason 48

We here in Iowa waited patiently, just like the rest of the country, for the writer's strike to be resolved and for new shows to be produced. And tonight we were to be rewarded for our patience with n...

Life Revelation 64

I was hit with a ton of bricks this morning, a revelation so clear and so bright that it stopped me in my tracks. Literally. I was on my way to the bathroom and had to stop in the laundry room to coll...

Not a Dream

Often on Wednesdays I drink a lot of soda. I usually need the extra caffeine but it also makes me have to use the toilet several times in the middle of the night. Lucky for me, there is a bathroo...
