SHAWN KING Wearing the crown proudly A King’s Bio…Shawn King makes his way up the corporate ladder with god in his heart, the world on his shoulders, and success on his mind. Making executive decisions is no easy chore, but when you have over 18 years of entertainment experience; some things become second nature. Born in Jersey City, NJ, King, 33, grew up in the neighboring town of Linden with both parents and 5 siblings. During his youth King would endure the ups and downs of life, leaving him with experiences he would take into adulthood. As a kid King always craved the spotlight, “while in the second grade I made the front page of a local newspaper (Linden Leader) for my performance in a play about Martin Luther King, Jr. and throughout junior high school I was very outgoing, especially with music.†With King beginning to find his niche, tragedy hits when he loses his mother to cancer at the tender age of 13. Now with no mother, King is forced to grow up quickly. Fortunately for this young budding entrepreneur he had a lifetime friend Malik Pendleton who inspired King musically by producing hit records for Mary J. Blige, Wyclef, Redman, Zhane, Diana Ross and many more a disciplined father who’s a 32nd degree mason and vice president of city council of Union County, Int’l Masons & Order Of Eastern Star and a lifetime friend, uncle and mentor John Blassingame who is the publisher of Today’s Black Women, Just for Black Men and Hype Hair Magazines who would take King to breakfast on Saturdays and was the 1st person to teach King how to party and network in the ATL while introducing him to longtime friends Mr. & Mrs. Bernard Bronner publisher of Upscale Magazine and Janice Combs mother of the Hip Hop mogul P.Diddy.“Hard work and dedication are the keys to successâ€, says King, “and you can expect that in everything I do.†After attending college at UCC for Business Mngt/Communicatons King decided he was ready for real hands on experience in the entertainment industry. Since he first stepped through the entertainment industry doors as an Intern for Def Comedy Jam, King focused on networking, making sure he knew everybody and most importantly, everybody knew him. Inspired by another lifetime friend Bob Sumner, who was at the time and still is the V.P. of Def Comedy Jam, King saw an opportunity to express himself through creative work so he began working behind the scenes, which taught him that you don’t need a spotlight to shine. The job with Def Comedy Jam exposed the 23 year old to celebrities like Bill Bellamy, Joe Torre, Cedric the Entertainer, Martin Lawrence and the lifestyle he would come to love.“If I could emulate anyone in the business, it would definitely be P.Diddy.†Who ever said “be careful what you wish for, it just might come true†wasn’t talking about Shawn King as he comes face to face with Sean Combs and holds his own. While working as an Information Agent and Team Leader at FedEx, King gets a call that would change his life forever. He was offered a job at Justin’s in Atlanta (Through a strong affiliate known as Tastemaker’s Night Life Publications) to be a weekly VIP Celebrity host but it would mean King would have to relocate to the Dirty South. Always optimistic, King saw this as another break to showcase his creativity and share with the world the experiences of his life. What he got instead was the experience of his life. While outside of Justin’s in Atlanta King realizes he has more in common with Diddy than just his first name, “I’ve got rides home from Diddy’s mom and I helped Kim Porter, Diddy’s girlfriend secure an endorsement deal as a spokes model for Coors light.†After their first face to face outside of Justin’s in NY where King was doing consultant work for Tastemaker’s Magazine a publication then distributed by Arista, Diddy sets up a meeting with King for the next day, and the encounter would teach both parties that you could be a star and remain down to earth. The Renaissance man for 305HipHop.COM had this to say about the two, “Sean Combs and Shawn King both embody the true essence of the American dream which I think is a reflection of their character and their pedigree.â€King negotiates with royalty from A.M. to P.M… literally. After several more years of consulting an 11-year Def Squad producer Tah Mack, and overseas consulting for former Def Jam artist ONYX as you can see in the HBO, Showtime and Starz special American Rap Stars. King’s consulting and networking abilities lands him the chance to venture into other aspects of the music industry, like managing. His first project would be P.M., a Miami-based emcee with a charismatic flow reminiscent of Brooklyn’s finest Jay-Z. While searching for an opening act for a concert he planned for Cash Money’s Juvenile, King came across a diamond in the rough and felt that he possessed the right tools to help him shine bright. King booked the unknown rapper for the show and signed on as his manager after only one meeting; I guess it was thug at first sight. Ever since that day Kings hustle has been focused on the Rising Star out of the south. P.M. is slowly becoming a household name through radio play, countless shows, and a brilliant marketing scheme that has him doing events like The Mix Show Power Summit’s in the Bahamas where he performed on the MTV Stage with multi-platinum reggae artist Richie Spice and a gig as the spokesperson for Hustler Clothing alongside (TVTâ€s own) Pitbull.“As a manager I want to be someone that assures quality.†After a previous 2 ½ year deal with Iconz/Koch that didn’t allow King to maximize P.M.’s worth, he takes the crown to Royal Dollar Records which is owned by the Prince Of Saudi Arabia and co-owned by Foxy Brown’s long time road manager Romello, located in the heart of south beach Florida. Royal Dollar Records recently inked a distribution deal with J Records after Clive Davis was impressed by Royal Dollars 1st artist Boo Rossellini aka The Boss Player formerly of Interscope Records.
