About Me

myspace graphics & layoutsWhere to begin? Well I'll start with my name is Pat. I live in New York and recently went active duty with the US Navy. I am pretty easy going, but I am always ridiculously busy and between work and school, I have no free time. I play a number of instruments because I cant make my mind which one I like best. I am very obsessed with history, mainly Ancient Greece, the Roman Empire (mainly the late-Roman period) and most especially, the Byzantine Empire, but any history will easily get my attention. I enjoy thrills, like boxing, scuba diving, sky-diving, bow-hunting, etc. I know a few languages on various levels: Russian, Turkish, French, Arabic...and also some old ones like ancient Greek and some Chruch Latin. As you can gather from above, I enjoy any music, but mainly Classical, Jazz, bluegrass, ragtime, and some ethnic like East European and Middle Eastern. I'm not a big party goer, but I have certainly have my moments...That said, I think I am done here...

My Interests

As I said above, anything to do with International relations, law, and politics will interest me. I crave history on the Byzantine Empire and Eastern Europe. I am interested in different cultures. I am also interested in archeology, astronomy, quantum physics and learning foreign languages. I can also play a few instruments ranging from Cello, Viola, Double Bass, 5-string Banjo, Egyptian Oud, Russian Balalaika, Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar and some Mandolin. I play the banjo with my band Free Grass Union (we play old time, bluegrass and some ragtime). Check us out yo!

I'd like to meet:

I really dont care who I meet, just dont act immature and dont bore me. Otherwise, I'll get along with anybody just fine. CURRENT MOON moon phases

Music:

I am a HUGE fan of Classical (mainly Baroque period) music, but I also enjoy a wide variety of other musics ranging from Old Time, Bluegrass, Jazz, Blues, Russian and Eastern Eurpoean folk musics and some Middle Eastern ethnic musics (Turkish and Egyptian)...basically anything with the exception of techno and most classic rock...

Movies:

Everything is Illuminated, Gang's of New York, The Black Dahlia, From Hell, V for Vendetta, Advent Children, Event Horizon, amoung others.

Television:

I dont have time for TV, but if I get the chance, it is BBC World News, History International and LOST.

Books:

Multitudes...Byzantium (Early Centuries, the Apogee and the Decline and Fall) by John Julius Norwich, Istanbul: Memories and the City by Orhan Pamuk, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy (yes I read the book before I saw the movie!), La Belle France by Alstair Horne, and Natasha's Dance by Orlando Figgs to name a few.

Heroes:

My parents, and also the Emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos, a true hero. The last emperor of Byzantium who died defending his empire and his people at the fall of Constantinople.
