About Me

Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor - Image Hosting

Described by Art Rocker magazine as "a beast of a band" and "the cult it's ok to join" and by dogma.net as "a brain-meltingly good live act", Old Street Musical Union have carved themselves a reputation as one of the finest, most inventive bands on London's unsigned circuit.
Rich harmonies, great musicianship and killer songwriting have built the band a substantial following in the capital which is now extending through acclaimed appearances at festivals including the Secret Garden and Standon Calling.
By turns raw, witty and acerbic, Old Street Musical Union move effortlessly between musical styles, while always managing to retain a sound that is all their own.
Old Street Musical Union also host a FREE monthly night of live music - Club OSMU. As much a party as a gig, we take over the upstairs of the Oxford pub, by Kentish Town station and invite guest bands and our resident DJ Big Al to join us in playing music for anyone and everyone who drops by for a beer and a boogie.
See our gig listings for our next free Club OSMU night or check out: www.myspace.com/clubosmu for more info

"IT CATCHES YOU, DRAGS YOU ALONG BY THE FEET, DROPS YOU ONLY TO CATCH YOU AND PULL YOU TOWARDS IT AGAIN... OSMU SEEM TO HAVE ENJOYED MAKING THIS RECORD AND IT CAPTURES A SPIRIT IT'S ALL TOO EASY TO LOSE IN THE STUDIO."
Cambridge And Beyond review of the album on http://www.fatea.freeserve.co.uk/releases.html

"THEY MOVE WITH EASE BETWEEN DIFFERENT STYLES (ONE MINUTE AMERICANA, THE NEXT A LIVELY CORAL-ESQUE SCOUSE REVIVAL, THEN A STRAIGHT-DOWN-THE-LINE BLUES NUMBER), ALL THE TIME CONVEYING THE MESSAGE THAT LIVE MUSIC SHOULD BE FUN. THIS ATTITUDE RUBS OFF ON THE CROWD, SOME OF WHOM BREAK INTO SPORADIC BOUTS OF HIP-SHAKING AND HOLLERING. POSSESSING THAT ENVIABLE KNACK OF WRITING SONGS THAT SOUND FAMILIAR ON FIRST LISTEN, OLD STREET ROUND-UP THE NIGHT IN A JOYOUS FASHION."

"THOUGHT PROVOKING LYRICS SET TO MUSIC THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO GET UP AND DANCE."

"OLD STREET MUSICAL UNION PRODUCE A GRIPPING SOUND THAT SWOOPS YOU IN AND MAKES YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE THEM. THE ORCHESTRATION IS PLAYFUL, THE PERCUSSION IS INVENTIVE AND THE VOCAL DELIVERY IS ALWAYS EXPRESSIVE. IT COMPELS YOU TO LISTEN. OSMU CONJURE UP UNIQUE AND ATMOSPHERIC MUSIC WITH THEIR OWN BRAND OF SHARPLY OBSERVED AND HUMOROUS LYRICS"
