The folk revolution of the 1960's brought the music of Ireland and Scotland to a wider audience. Since that time, a number of bands and performers have marked the evolution of this storied music; The Dubliners, The Chieftains, The Bothy Band, The Pogues and Lunasa to name a few.
Now comes Circled By Hounds; the next great name in Celtic music. Drawing from a wealth of talent and history, this Portland, Oregon-based group seeks to continue to explore and push the boundaries of traditional music and create a sound wholly their own.
The band seamlessly integrates a healthy respect for traditional songs and instrumentals with original music that never strays far from it's roots while avoiding cliché.
Featuring the inimitable Kathryn Claire on vocals, fiddle, guitar and concertina; Matthew Hayward-MacDonald providing the band's backbone on guitar and vocals, sixth-generation Japanese-Irish flautist and singer Hanz Araki, and Vash deftly playing an astonishing variety of percussion instruments with ferocity.
Circled By Hounds grew organically out of a mutual love and respect for traditional music and a genuine joy for creating music together.
The group may at any moment play as blinding a set of jigs or reels as you're ever likely to hear, followed by a flawless four-part harmony, and just as easily silence a room with a heart-wrenching solo a capella, all with extraordinary ability and artistry.
