DISCO DRIVE

taking it to the next level

About Me

LIVE AT MAGNET, BERLIN, GERMANY
LIVE IN BERGEN, NORWAY
LIVE AT ROLLING STONE, MILAN
Formed in 2002, Disco Drive are one band who have taken the DIY ethos and ran with it. They have worked super hard creating a buzz in both their home country Italy and european soil. Over 200 shows later these boys have picked up an impressive collection of fellow musical admirers having played shows with the likes of The Long Blondes, Liars, Klaxons, !!!, Deerhoof, The Organ, Help She Can't Swim, Hot Club de Paris, Foals and The Thermals. This evidence of their cross genre appeal is reflected in their awesome second album 'Things To Do Today'.
They released their debut album 'What's Wrong With You, People?' in 2005. Their first UK single came out February 2007 on Tough Love Records (7" and digital download) and quickly sold out.
But the bands' popularity seems to have escalated far quicker on home turf where - quite rightly - they are Big News. Their debut album is into it's third pressing in Italy, they were nominated by MTV Italy as one of the best live bands that year and have picked many awards for Best Debut Album 2005 - perhaps it's time europeans followed suit? Early responses seem to confirm that, including the brilliant 8/10 review they got from the NME.
Live, they're a force to be reckoned with - utilising all three vocalists to play across two drum kits, a lead guitar, a bass, a sampler, a moog sinth and laptop and various effects. They create a powerful and thrilling sound - something that could've been tricky to replicate in a recording studio but hell, they've done it.
'Things To Do Today' was mixed by Steve Revitte (DFA. Liars, LCD Soundsystem, Beastie Boys) and has just been released worldwide by Italian label Unhip records through the Indigo distribution network. It's an 11-track beauty of fast moving punk excitement that most bands would struggle to maintain. From the electro tinged 'The Flower Stall' to the title track 'Things To Do Today' with its clock chiming rap synth moves, Disco Drive achieve their aim to push the boundaries whilst keeping the people dancing (as they do in the highly infectious single "It's A Long Way To The Top").
Musically, Disco Drive begin where all the neo-new wave bands end. They allow themselves to delve into experimentation. They redefine the boundaries between noise and melody, rhythm and improvisation, pop and the avant-garde.
Unafraid to challenge themselves with new musical directions, Disco Drive escape the safe path of (the so called) punk funk to try something uneasy, but much more intriguing. Their new songs start with what the old ones accomplished and make it to a different level.
