When it comes to the challenges and obstacles faced when penetrating the music industry, no team has better undergone the pressures than C.B.L. where the name speaks for itself: CANT B LIFE. Derived from their inability to prove themselves of their lyrical insight, the group consists of $.Dolla, Bean Roasta and SF Merlo. They have always felt the need to express their life encounters and bring those experiences to light. Too skillful, too powerful, yet unknown, its these characteristics that define who they are and continually allow them to bring damage to the rap game. With a five year track record of officially becoming a congress, Cant B Life's members originated from Brampton, growing up as high school friends. Prior to pursuing this musical career together, their friendships throughout high school had developed a sense of brotherly love. In the early stages, SF.Merlo was involved with a rap group called Hanga V.I.P along with other local artists. $.Dolla was commonly heard in the high school hallways and bus shelters spitting rhymes while Bean Roasta was dropping flows on his pager weekly. Through-out their Notre Dame Secondary School years, which is located in the west-end of the Greater Toronto Area in Canada, they were mainly known as their own individual artist with a love of mainly rapping or free-styling. It wasnt until just after their graduating year in the summer of 2000 when they had collaborated together and formed C.B.L. With influences from the likes of Ghetto Concept and other artists, they believed in their dreams; that it wasnt impossible to prosper as a rap group emerging from Canada. As the new millennium sparked, they began recording at various studios across the G.T.A, a task that would prove to be more difficult than they had expected. Instead, they pursued the independent route where learning the music business was prioritized, thus giving the group a head start on accomplishing their goals. With todays hip hop culture, especially within the ranks of the Toronto scene, the trio is fighting for the chance to display their talents and compete with the other leaders in the music industry. Presently in 2006, Toronto is enduring many difficulties with homicides and gun violence. C.B.L's musical content portrays those hardships and hopes to shed some positive energy to the streets. With their up-coming hit singles "Hate In the Club" and "Tek it EZ" they are destined to make a change in the rap game and finally be placed on the map. Cant B Life - living a life that cant be, is the groups slogan which is geared towards the future to overcome those hardships and struggles, endured by many independent artists trying to make a name for themselves.
