I am here for Dating, Serious Relationships and Friends

About Me

Professional computer geek, student of computer science, Zen practitioner, armchair philosopher, armchair psychologist. (Is that, along with other changes, 'nuff said, now? :)

My Interests

Primarily, sciences, philosophy, Zen, psychology, some forms of comedy.

I'd like to meet:

People of any age, race, and orientation, preferably with a few common interests.
(Background textures courtesy of http://www.grsites.com/ , who requested that a link to their site be made if their backgrounds are used.)

Music:

Some things from most genres have caught the interest, except punk or death metal. Upbeat music has generally been preferred. Examples of "interesting" artists within the vaguely defined genre of pop/rock include (in no particular order): Vertical Horizon, Yes, Moby, Kansas, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, New Order, Erasure, Nightwish, Kamelot, Roxette, Smash Mouth, Aqua, Ace of Base, Real McCoy, Genesis, and Mr. Mister. Artists of other genres include Cusco, Marc Antoine, Praful, Suzanne Ciani, Chris Spheeris, Craig Chaquico, 3rd Force, David Benoit, Enigma, Mannheim Steamroller, The Rippingtons, Enya, Keiko Matsui, Yanni, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Scott Joplin, and Weird Al Yankovic. :)

Movies:

Star Trek series, Star Wars series, Dune, Matrix series, Lord of the Rings series, Tron, Harry Potter series, Princess Bride, Monty Python's Holy Grail, I Robot, Indiana Jones series, Hunt for Red October, Forrest Gump, and pretty much anything that was more than 90% 3D computer-generated graphics.

Television:

Lately, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Monk, Life, Mythbusters, Numb3rs, House, Psych, Heroes, Chuck, and The Universe. In the past, Star Treks TNG, DS9, and Voyager, Farscape, Frasier, Friends, Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Whose Line Is It Anyway, the occasional documentary, and several others that slip the mind. Several anime series, including: Ghost in the Shell, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Naruto, Escaflowne, Tenchi Muyo, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and probably others that have been unintentionally left out - all series preferred with original Japanese voice acting and English subtitles.

Books:

Non-fiction: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig, Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan, The Singularity is Near by Ray Kurzweil. Fiction: multiple books by Douglas Adams, Orson Scott Card, Isaac Asimov, Grant Naylor, Arthur C. Clarke, Robert A. Heinlein, Frank Herbert and his son, and probably more than one other author that didn't bubble up from memory at the time of writing this.

My Blog

favorite video of 2007

Ok, so it's a little late to be posting this, but I finally remembered.  I must have a "dark" sense of humor, because this made me laugh my head off.  It's about a 10 minute segment of a ven...

What is Zen?

Here I am at nearly 5am, still not in very good control of my crazy sleep habits, and finding myself motivated to write a blog entry.  It's been a while since my last one.I've noticed myself slo...

About 90 minutes ago, I got home from a really late night of work, finished eating something, and signed on to my IM program.  An online friend that I have been talking to for about 6 months mess...

It's been a while since I wrote anything here, so I decided I might share a little story of my day today.  I went to the dentist to have a couple cavities filled.  The right half of my face ...

poker millionaire

I finally became a poker millionaire tonight.  Granted it's only fake money, but it's still an accomplishment in my book.  I started with $2000 around last April and grew that to over $1,000...

establishing democratic commerce

After talking to a few people about this and giving it some more thought, I still think it's a good idea, but I think it's unlikely that most companies would choose to adopt this model out of the good...

democratic commerce

I recently had a flash of insight about how I might like to run a large business:  as a true democracy.  It seems to me that it could reduce some of the problems with capitalism as it curren...

compare and contrast blogging

I've been thinking about the pros and cons of one medium of communication over another, specifically IRC, instant messenging (IM), blogging, and e-mail. IRC and IM have the advantage of being real-ti...

I just wanted to share some links to some interesting articles that I've read recently, mostly from the Wikipedia.  The articles include such ideas as philosophy (including the sub articles of it...

why do people blog?

Having written a few of my own blogs, and having read a few other random people's blogs, I sat back for a while and thought about what motivated me to do it, and what might motivate other people to do...
