"The sonic-trash-noise revolution has begun with this humble piece of music. Get ready for the full-length assault..."
- Vice Magazine
Riff Random are five young friends obsessed by guitar freak-outs, noisydelic drones and haunting melody. They play ethereal, pulsating rock influenced by the 60s psychadelic scene, early 90s shoegazers and the NYC punk scene of the early 80s. Yet this ain't no tribute. Their music has drawn favourable comparisons with bands such as Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Can and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Yet their sound is distinctive and exciting.
Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Riff Random have already toured extensively. After playing events including the Reading and Leeds festival, the Big Day Out and South By Southwest, the ban soon release their debut album.
In the past eighteen months, the band have toured the UK with Bloc Party, Mystery Jets and TV On The Radio. Most recently, Riff Random played a 2005 mini-tour of Club NME venues in the UK and supported Maximo Park on their Australian tour. Riff Random have also recently been invited to tour Australia with The Magic Numbers in early 2006.
Original bassist Ross Cottee fell of a five-story building in 2003 and has since taken a break from the band to recover. Bass duties have since been taken by Dr Karl Bartl, a qualified sex therapist.
Riff Random are booked by Steve Zapp at the ITB Agency in London. Their music is published by Universal Music. In Australia, the debut album is released on the seminal label Timberyard, which released the first singles for You Am I, The Scientists and many other great bands.
"A band you have to hear...it's the kind of noise that could have easily have come from a lower East Side New York apartment block as opposed to a suburban Melbourne household"
