Formed in the fall of 2005, So is the Tongue is a progressive/experimental 3 piece from central New Jersey that doesn't put any limits on their music, constantly seeking to expand the arsenal of instruments and sounds found in their songs. The songs are epic and shift from open ambient sections with "post rock" tendencies, aggressive modern prog fits, to nausea inducing psychedelic freak outs that are composed to flow together seamlessly, representing all emotions in the human experience.
Since winter of 2006 the band has been playing clubs, bars, basements and other DIY spaces in tri-state area including NYC and Philadelphia with such bands as Behold...The Arctopus, Kayo Dot, Unearthly Trance, Bloody Panda, and even the Legendary Misfits to name a few. So is the Tongue is set on making their music be heard at loud volumes and give intense performances whether there is an audience of 5 or 50. Playing to a wide variety of audiences, So is the Tongue's ambient material pull in listeners that have never considered listening to bands of an experimental genre, while their rock, metal, and noise inspired material grabs even the most educated of music critics looking for something fresh and new.
Over the course of the last year So is the Tongue has put together an album of their first 4 compositions as a band that won't tie them down to any sound or genre or restrict them to how they can expand on it in the future. Constantly writing, the band is always looking to grow past their last song and create more powerful and engaging music.
