The Beatniks entire album was recorded at Chavez Productions Studio in Encinitas. Beatniks formed in 2004 when Gabe Lehner(aka Chavez) got together this home studio. Having always had a true love of hip-hop, Chavez started making beats just for fun, and eventually decided it would be good idea to make a full-length album with his beats.
Finding MC's was no problem for Chavez, his brother Zach(aka Rapscallion) had become obsessed with the craft and was always coming up with really clever, off-the-wall ryhmes. His other brother, Dalton Harmon(aka D Nutty), has also grown up with a true love of hip-hop music, and it was only natural that he would get involved with his cool voice/style and ability to write awesome lyrics. By random coincidence, Chavez hooked up with the up-and-coming MC from Boston, D-Rek, who jumped at the chance to throw down his lyrical skills over Chavez's beats. Rapscallion would often write raps with his friend from school, JD(aka Lyon Lu), so he got involved on some tracks as well. Finally, on the MC front, Chavez's long-time friend, Josh Ramirez(aka Lil J), lended his talents and unique voice to the group to freshen up the rhymes and add more flavor to the mix.
To complete the musical vibe called "Beatniks," two girls named Ashley sang vocal hooks and background loops, and another friend, Jeff, did some scratching on his turntables. This collaboration of random people to make a hip-hop record for fun is Beatniks.
The album and it's beats are the vision of Chavez, who has been playing and writing songs for the past eight years with the band jack the original. Creativity is his forte, and Hip-Hop is a deep-rooted passion for the young producer. The result is The Flowtastic Flabbergast, the first album by the Beatniks. Enjoy!
