This weekend, SF's famous Fillmore district night club, the Boom Boom Room, hosted a free event staring the one and only: The Get Down. This SF formed five piece funk band, brought the party to the otherwise mundane sunday evening, dropping the hammer with some of the funkiest music in town. Getting started around 9:30 these guys didn't stop rockin' it until 2am. This is the third time I've seen The Get Down get down in the last year and they get better every time.
.
The Get Down is a truly remarkable band with the ability to light up any night of the week, and to see them for free was a very positive twist. Normally, a Get Down show will run you seven to ten bucks, and well worth it it is, but to see them for free was a welcomed treat for the whole bar to share. With the audience relieved of the cover charge burden, it's quite obvious where the extra greenbacks went. I give you a hint: glug, glug, glug!
.
The party, and party it was, was quite the sight, with folks dancing freak nasty and falling all over the place. There was nothing but smiles on the faces of everyone present, The Get Down having an amazing ability to promote positive vibes and a peaceful, good time atmosphere. The Get Down's shows highlight SF's melting pot of culture and class, bringing together all types from all places to join together in the kingdom of funk. Brewed in SF and playing in SF's many night clubs and bars, The Get Down really illuminates what is positive and unique about San Francisco's music scene.
