The initial idea of Morose took form at the end of 2005. The brainchild of
one Matthew Valler, Morose was birthed from the desire to create dark and
moody electronic music. With influences ranging from such diverse artists as
Front Line Assembly, Aphex Twin, and Nine Inch Nails, the aim of Morose is
to combine the harsh, cold reality-check of old-school industrial music with
the more upbeat/danceable nature of modern trip-hop, combined with an ever
present streak of dark melody with a slashing ray of hope.
Taking the Morose concept and running with it, Valler decided to handle
all of the programming, arranging, and recording himself, with a sound and
solid vision in mind. The contrasting styles of ambient and pop find a
harmonious conclusion in Morose’s music, and seek to touch the listener
within the bleakest corners of the psyche. Sinister sampling and danceable
beats mesh with the subtle use of electronics to create a deep and unique
listening experience
August 2006 finally saw the completion of the recording process for
Morose’s full length debut, “The Gloom Sessionsâ€. With more and more
compositions being written, and with the possibility of live shows looming
upon the horizon, Morose is looking to take its sound and vision to the next
level, and welcomes collaboration with like-minded and interested partners.
