My Interests

Games. Computer games, video games, even board games, though it's been years since I played one. I worked in the video game industry a few years ago and just finished school to get back into it again. So for me it's really not just all fun and games. In a real way, it's my life.

I love movies, and to a much lesser extent, TV. The only real TV I watch these days is on DVD though. I have a massive DVD collection. My current shows are Lost and the new Battlestar Galactica.

I love anthropology, the study of people. I've studied physical and cultural anthropology and had numerous classes in world religions and mythology. Physical anthropology is my favorite branch, though I love it all. This probably has to do with my view of history - it tends to be boring but becomes more and more interesting the further back in time you go. By the time you reach prehistory, I'm fascinated.

I love many aspects of Japanese culture, something I discovered while studying cultural anthropology.

Chief among my interests in Japanese culture are my love of aikido, especially yoshinkan aikido, and my interests in manga and anime. I'm not so big on Japanese food though. I don't do seafood at all, and sushi does nothing for me. I do, however, absolutely adore wasabi - I love hot spicy foods.

I love reading, and have been reading voraciously since I was a small child. I can't remember what it was like to not be able to read. I was reading well before I started school. When my fourth grade class was tested for reading ability, I was reading at a college level.

I love to write, though I get writer's block something fierce at times.

I love to draw, though I don't practice enough. I have difficulty drawing with pen and pencil. I typically draw with a wacom graphics tablet in Adobe Illustrator.

I love photography, and about 9 months ago I finally broke down and went digital with a 5.0 megapixel Olympus camera. I'm still very happy with it.

You can see some of my drawings, 3d renderings, a photo or two that I've taken and some writing samples at my portfolio gallery.

I love the Internet, even though I hate it too. The state of .. literacy (well, actually the state of literacy in general) these days kills me... but that's a rant for another time. Do NOT get me started.

I'd like to meet:

Well, naturally I'd love to meet people who can help me find a job in the game industry again. ;) But I'm up for meeting anyone cool.

You can check out my writing and graphics portfolio at http://www.octobersfools.ca .

Anyone who has looked at my friend's list knows already that I know a few models... well, some of them are involved in contests. If you've got the time and are so inclined, they and I would be very appreciative of your votes!

Vote for my gorgeous friend Monica as hottest chick on MySpace!

Music:

My tastes are eclectic and a bit of a contradiction. On the one hand, there's an awful lot of music out there I cannot stand, but on the other hand, I can hear almost anything as long as I'm not listening to it. I tend to use music mostly as a mood influencer when I'm working. I like a lot of classical music, celtic, world/new age, a bit of rock and gothic, etc. I can't stand disco, rap or country, though some country these days is so indistinguishable from mainstream pop that I can tolerate it.

Movies:

Hands down, all time favorite movies: The Star Wars saga, all 6 of them, but particularly 3, 4, 5, 6. The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Harry Potter films.

I'm also pretty fond of bad movies, at least those I term "good" bad movies. Particular favorites in that category include the Resident Evil films among many others.

I've recently become highly addicted to movie trivia games as well. There's a really good one at Ultimate Movie Trivia that I recommend you check out if you're at all into trivia. It requires signing up, but I've never heard of anyone getting spam or extra email as a result of it.

Television:

I'm totally in love with Lost and the new Battlestar Galactica series. Don't get me wrong, I grew up with the original BSG, but the new one kicks its ass up and down the street 3 times over. It'll never replace the original... but it sure can surpass it.

My most recent new favorite show is a sitcom, something I'd never have believed... I *love* "How I Met Your Mother". Amazing, hillarious show.

Books:

I read a lot, mostly fantasy and science fiction. I bet you're shocked after reading the other sections of my profile! Right now I'm on a Terry Brooks kick, re-reading The Wishsong of Shannara.

I just finished reading The DaVinci Code recently, it was pretty interesting. Not the greatest story ever told, but it was told pretty well. My main complaint would have to be that it's not as character-driven as I prefer stories to be, but that's just me.

Heroes:

Ken and Roberta Williams, two of the most influential adventure game creators on the planet. They created many interactive virtual dreamworlds for me to play in and were directly responsible for most of my early thoughts on getting into the game industry.

Sid Meier, for wasting literally years of my life with his damned Civilization series.

Will Wright, for addicting me to sim games of all types, from Sim City to Sim Ant to Sim Earth to Sim Life to, of course, The Sims.
