"Stone Soup loves to jam. That’s good, ‘cause they throw down tight.' Which doesn’t surprise, when you consider the pedigree. Culled from former members of High and Tight, Clovis, Matt Pudas and the North Country Bandits and The Jazz Orgy, we’re talking time-tested veterans. With Drew Druckrey fronting on lead guitar and vocals, this band works blues-rock about as bad as they want to, drawing on savvy lyrics to boot. Check out the pile-driving “Ruby Wine,†where the wizened chorus goes, “Pass some of that Ruby Wine / Call it my savior / Two cents low, trying to break bread / Some say it’s behavior.†Can’t go wrong with these guys." (Dwight Hobbes, Pulse TC)
"Great as many of the bands playing around Minneapolis and St. Paul are, you can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the cities and still catch some mighty fine music. No more than a 15-minute drive outside the Twin Cities, Stone Soup does a regular Wednesday night thing at the Fridley Crab House. Blues rockers to the bone, they’ve put together a strong sound made of R&B, New Orleans funk, plain old-fashioned Rock ’n’ Roll and, of course, Chicago blues. It’s all in the hands of veterans: Guitarists Drew Druckrey and Marc Nicpon come by way of High and Tight; bass player Chris Hunnicutt by way of The Jazz Orgy; drummer Brett Behrens by way of Clovis; and keyboardist Derek Rohlf by way of Stereoscope. Stone Soup has been getting decent exposure opening for the likes of New Primitives, White Iron Band and some other heavyweights. It ought to be some kind of fun catching them as headliners." ." (Dwight Hobbes, Pulse TC)
For nearly 2 years now Stone Soup has been perfecting their craft in the studio and cutting their teeth on stages all over the midwest. With members that are almost all live-long musicians and music students, they have taken influence from classical piano, jazz fusion, country, blues, and funk to create a sound different from anything experienced. "This band sounds like a band that likes eachother!" A compliment recently received by the band after rehersal. Look for these guys to be around for the long haul, as most of them are calling the music business home for life.
