Band History: Olaf and Pepa first joined forces in northern Czech Republic in 1998 as Skrat and began to build a band that would eventually come to be called Candela. By 2000, Candella was enjoying success locally as a live band and was invited to play at the metal festival “SvÄ•t Nerezové Oceliâ€. The lineup included Olaf and Pepa, plus Martin Ciprián (drums), Standa Popelka (guitar), Martin Hendrych (keyboard) and Pavel Michek (lead vocals). Shortly after, however, members began to leave and the band fell apart. By 2002 Olaf and Pepa had both relocated to Prague and were pursuing their musical careers in different bands. Dissatisfied with the direction their bands were moving in, Olaf and Pepa knew that, musically, they were much better together than apart. So Pepa and his drummer Martin Husák plus Olaf and his guitarist Michal “Lanc†Cechner reformed Candela and went in search of a lead singer. While they auditioned Eva, they decided at the time she wasn’t quite right for the band, and Pavel agreed to rejoin. The band was almost complete, and rehearsals were going well when Martin decided to move on. Olaf and Pepa packed the band up, moved north again, and began the search for a new drummer. In May 2003, they picked up Libor KÅ™ivánek on the sticks and moved back near Prague to resume rehearsals in Libor’s cottage in Hole. By August, they had booked their first concert. In October, Candela was thrilled to have Honza Cinert, a fantastic keyboardist, join the band. They were now complete and ready to make their mark on the Czech Republic metal scene! In June 2004, however, Libor and Lanc unexpectedly quit the band, leaving the remaining members in turmoil. Paval brought a talented 15-year old drummer named Vláda to audition, and the band welcomed him along with Tomáš on guitar. By March 2005, the band was back on its feet and performing once again. In February 2006, Candela began recording their debut album, but Pavel could no longer sing due to problems with his vocal chords. The band recorded the instrumentals, and while Desideria singer Katka was filling in on vocals during live shows, the band was once again auditioning for a permanent lead singer. Eva decided to give it another try in February 2007, and this time, the band was hooked. Eva laid the vocal tracks for the debut album in the summer of 2007, and the band was on track to finish and release their first CD. At the end of the summer, Vláda decided to leave the band and the band was once again looking for a drummer. 2008 is a promising year for the band. With a new name – Evarest, a new drummer – Zdeno, and a promising relationship with a new label – Farvahar Records, EVAREST is ready to climb onto the world stage and rock it fast and furious! The debut full-length CD by Czech female-fronted melodic speed metal band, Evarest, will be released in the US on November 11 through Straw House Entertainment and Sony RED.
