David Benjamin Gruner got his first taste of the singing bug when he performed in the Super Bowl XXX halftime show with Diana Ross and was invited to sing for a five-state honor choir in Pasadena, Ca., where he took home the Top Award. David was still confused as to where this would take him, but he knew one thing... music was the outlet to help him escape, to breath. David's musical career took the next step when he sang lead vocals for a duet called S.O.S (Sink or Swim). This was the kind of attention David yearned for. He began writing and referencing vocals for other local talent, which honed his skills. Soon he learned to draw from those experiences that were so intimidating at the time, allowing his creativity to manifest in the music he envisioned. David's sound has been influenced by many artists such as Joe and Michael Jackson. After moving to the Midwest, he built a relationship with the local Top 40 radio station KQCH Channel 94.1- Omaha. His knowledge for great music has followed him to the recording studio where he has recorded the smash hit "Girltalk", produced by the upcoming 17 year old phenomenon Cory Bold who has worked with Omarion, Marques Houston, and Young Joc to name a few. He also had performances with JoJo, Xzibit, and Jordan Knight... David was also in a NIKE commercial featuring Michael Vick, Steve Young etc. Also, his acting debut was on the hit FOX drama "The O.C." in late 2006. These most recent events have led David along the path of the group VyBe, who were in need of an additional member. After seeing what a tight group they were, he gladly accepted the invite. David is the older brother type in Vybe and is ready to share his talent with the world.
Known as the Jokester of Vybe, Christopher James Durbin was born in Oscoda, Michigan. At the age of 8 he began singing in the school choir and learning to imitate his idols, Jim Carrey, and later, Justin Timberlake. At 16 he moved to Illinois to live with his grandparents and to concentrate on the music that was burning in his soul. CJ was part of the local high school swing choir and quickly learned all their routines. He also aided others in learning the same. Not satisfied with the local scene, he joined a singing group out of Chicago called "Xprezz." After that ended, he met a manager out of Florida and moved there. CJ lived there for the next two years. He was given vocal lessons for six months and performed shows including in front of few thousand people at the arena in Orlando. After experiencing a few problems and setbacks with different management, he returned home to Illinois. He was working at a animal clinic when he got a call from Daniel. Vybe needed a few more guys in the group and that's when he decided to be part of the project. CJ is the most outspoken in the group and there is never a dull moment when he is around. He wrote his first song a while back, “Night and Day,†after a difficult relationship which ended. He is looking forward to do whatever it takes to share his gift and all he ever wanted to do is sing for anyone that will listen.
Jared Yates was well on his way to stardom, especially after beating out over 200,000 hopefuls and becoming a top 24 contestant on FOX's American Idol. He was part of season 4 of the world's most popular televised talent competition. The Danville, IL native, soon found himself performing live in front of more than 30 million tv viewers and being interviewed and featured in media outlets nationwide from MTV NEWS to ACCESS HOLLYWOOD. He then began to perform throughout the Midwest at all kinds of shows, fairs, festivals and concerts. Since appearing on IDOL, Jared began writing and recording his own music. He released his album in January of 2007 along with a single that placed on several stations. Jared also broadend his talents by digging into the film industry. He wrote a song that was used in a film called "ANGST" by Dreamscape Cinema Productions. While Jared was still doing gigs like singing the Anthem at college games and performing at House of Blues in Vegas, a friend told him about the opportunity of joining VYBE. He became the final member of VYBE shortly after and has since then been on a rollercoaster ride. From growing up in Fort Walton Beach to Illinois, Jared brings a certain charisma and style, a huge voice and positive demeanor to the group and a new chapter is about to begin.
Daniel redefines the term "creative".... He has written and/or produced almost 100 songs. He has also created the "Peace Project" in which he gathered help from fellow POPSTARS to help him launch the videos. He is also dipping into developing movies for the future... and that's only the surface. Daniel Wu was born on a little overpopulated island called Taiwan. As a little kid, the family decided to move to Tampa, Florida. In high school, he found himself with the urge to express himself creatively. He knew he had ideas but he wasn't sure how to express them properly. Then "MUSIC" came into his life; his best friend got him into music. For his first concerts, he went to Bush and Metallica. Seeing them live gave him an adrenaline rush like no other. He moved out after high school, sang karaoke nightly to get rid of stage fright and ultimately placed top 10 in a Florida statewide singing contest. During all of that he joined his first pop group. He would remain in that group for a couple of years until he moved to Orlando and formed the group "EXACT." The next 4 years would be the most exciting and challenging years. That group landed opening spots with Jessica Simpson, Hillary Duff, Aaron Carter, Lifehouse, Fat Joe, Frankie J and many other national acts.. performing in CENTRAL PARK, NYC and Hard Rock Lives are all just pieces of events that are etched in his repetoire. With plenty of time to work on his craft, Daniel found himself singing, harmonizing, writing, producing, choreographing, arranging, engineering, performing, media training, acting, and whatever else comes with being in a Pop group. Everything was done in a "DO IT YOURSELF" manner. With EXACT drawing to an end due to creative differences, he knew that if he was to be in a group again, the bar was raised. Months later, that dream became reality with VYBE. With creativity as his key to life, he hopes to make an impact not only in music but other fields as well. He has visions with and beyond the music. Daniel sees himself as the "Secret Weapon." He knows that he has ideas to offer that are untouched. Ultimately, he really wants to bridge the gap of the lack of Asian/Americans in the media... One way or another! In this over saturated market/ business, he doesn't try to be different. He is different!
Born to Frank and Beverly Joyner, Ryan Taylor Joyner was raised in a small southern community. As the youngest member of the group, Taylor has been searching for an escape from the simple life. He discovered music at a young age. In an attempt to pursue a career in his new found interest despite ridicual and haters, Taylor began doing anything and everything including "demos, plays, modeling, dance company etc.." He went through many highs and lows but the motivation of those who doubted him kept him on top of his game. After struggling through high school, he fell into Vybe. He contacted the guys and in May of 2005, and he met the guys in Orlando where they went straight to work. As things progressed, once again he is finding himself going through highs and lows including the loss of the most influential person in his life, his grandfather. At that time, he turned to the only two things he knows.... music and family. So with the team by his side and the kick in the track, practice makes perfect and now theres no lookin' back. Taylormade is ready to share his urban flavor and rhymes with the world. "With God in your life, there is no weight on your shoulders you can not hold" (quote from his grandfather Teddy Joyner)
