About Me

I'm a student from Arcadia University who is majoring in english/secondary education. I love working with kids, and I love literature so I thought that being an English teacher would be a good career choice. My mom is also a first grade teacher, so I have had lots of experience working with kids in her classroom, as well as working with 2-6 year olds, as a storytelling music specialist, at Breezy Point Day Camp. So working with kids is definately a part of my future career. As far as my personality, I tend to have a really soft hearted and sensitive personality. According to psychological tests I would be a high "S" personality. A high "S" is generally characterized by these following traits: quick and enthusiastic to help others, a good listener who is able to calm people who are upset, easygoing, has difficulty adjusting to change, if upset usually holds emotions inside, values relationships and friendships, likes to build strong lasting friendships, patient, usually avoids conflict to maintain peace, I work at a slow careful pace...so sometimes fast paced people get frustrated with me, I'm very sensitive and emotional...sometimes too sensitive, I fear rejection and can get hurt and upset easily, enjoy teamwork, I like sincere praise...but get embarrased or anxious if too much attention is focused on me, I'm dependable and a good worker, I try my best at everything, I can be overly critical and perfectionist with myself (not with others), I have difficulty making quick decisions. I'm usually generous, creative, imaginative, compassionate, original, expressive, talkitive, I'm more of an introvert...so I open up to people more in small groups or one on one, lots of times I can be a people pleaser...and find it difficult to be assertive, artistic. Most itmes I am gentle, loyal, nurturing, cooperative, and honest. I also have a learning disability called Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD).......................This disorder means that I have difficulty processing things people say to me, or directions...and therefore I can have problems with misinterpreting things people say or mixing up directions, or just having gaps in my information. Many people find learning diabilities embarassing...but I'm actually proud of it. It was the way God made me, and in spite of some of the weaknesses involved I've done well at school and have been able to help other students struggeling with CAPD...so sometimes what is seen as a weakness can actually be a strength. CAPD taught me to try my best, becuase I always had to put out extra effort to compensate...and it also taught me to not be afriad to ask for help.............................................The other major aspect of my life, and the most important, is my faith. I am a Christian who slowly is learning more and more about what it means to be adopted by Christ as one of his children, and to live under that grace and freedom. I am learning to see how my relationship to Jesus is like a parent-child relationship, because the reality is that I am often not a very good child...There have been times where I have tried to run away, times where I have shouted at God in anger, Times of dobuting God and his love, disobeying, rebelling, failing, loving other things above God etc...and in spite of all that I know that Christ already paid for my sins and failings, and no matter what I do or fail to do, I will still be accepted and loved by him bacause I have been adopeted as his son. When I have tried to run away he has persued me and welcomed me back with loving arms, when I have doubted his love he has sat me on his lap and reminded me of his love, and during all of my failings, and my falling in to sin, he has picked me up and treated me with gentelness, mercy, and love. It is such a comfort to know that there is nothing I can do or fail to do that will nullify his love and faithfulness. Yes, I'm messed up but I'm loved...thats what I want to become more and more aware of everyday...........Because I was brought up in a conservative and legalistic Christian environment, I tend to be more of a liberal Christian (at least liberal from my church experience). The churches I grew up in were all against rock music, they wouldn't go to see movies, they demonized drinking (even in moderation), they were overly suspicious of psychology and science, and just downright unhappy people living with little freedom. I can't live like that...I love freedom and I love experiemnting with freedom (but not abusing it).
