About Me

Rebond. My music page...
What need have I for this? What need have I for that? I am dancing at the feet of my Lord...all is bliss...all is bliss...

At age three I was pulling pots and pans out of the kitchen cabinets to make drum sets...
When I was eight, my brother got a guitar for Christmas. It was two pieces of molded plastic, sure, but a guitar! By two that afternoon he had broken every string. I used fishing line to restring it and taught myself to tune the darn thing. And I've been a lost cause ever since...

Bill, Mom and Dad at my Gamma's graveside, Easter 2007
My earliest memory is moving to a new home on my third birthday. Three months after the move Neil Armstrong took that "one small step." Not realizing that it would take a few days to get there, I got livid at my mom for pulling me away from the television shortly after the launch.
When President Reagan was shot, I informed my class. No one believed me until we were all called into the gym to be dismissed.
The Challenger explosion happened at the exact moment I was being sworn into the Navy.
Being a Deadhead on tour was a highly creative way to starve...but a lot of fun!
Boomer and Bailey...my boys...
Some of my favorite things:
Elixir Nanoweb Light/.012-.053
avocados
hot water (yes, I am a Navy vet...)
green tea
the patterns made by Live Oak branches
walking my dogs
listening to the tide come in...
people that know and care about music as much or more than I do, yet have radically different taste
products that say(and really are...), "100% Vegan"
really old musty books
cirrus clouds
seeing the dog poop before I step into it...
ProTools
always knowing what I did last night
knowing musicians with more talent than me

Music:

OK...Yeah, I'm an old hippie. Get over it... Grateful Dead, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, yadda yadda yadda. BUT, having worked in a record store for over a decade (jeez...) I've become quite eclectic as well as eccentric in taste as well as form. I've spent twelve years discussing Shostakovich's Eighth String Quartet then turning to the next person so they can ask about C-Murder or something and well, it's done something to my conceptions about what's worth a listen and what's not. I'll listen to anything...but my judgment...well, that's reserved for me...
Having said all of that...here is a list of artists on my iPod; all of which have at least two songs that have been played at least three times which I have given a five star rating (last updated early am 5/19/07...):

What Hindu God or Goddess are you like?
You are closest to the Lord Ganesha. Althogh he has an interseting feature of looking like and elephant, his power makes him strong and faithful. Lord Ganesh is the God to remove all obstacles in life. And because of his unique figure, one of his forces is that he looks beyond one's outer apearance. You are most like this Great God because you are strong and not all that judgemental but, you are human and it can be something in you like all the rest of us. Well Lord Ganesh like many other gods and goddess are just all incarnations of the one almighty god.

Television:

I do not watch television. I'm not angry about it or anything, it's just that if I've got some time to waste, I'd rather fill it with something other than inert mindless drivel. I prefer my mindless drivel to be active...

Books:

The Hero With A Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell (minus the Freudian stuff at the start...)
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Alcoholics Anonymous by well...Anonymous...
Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki
The Path Is The Goal by Chögyam Trungpa
How To Practice by His Holiness the Dalai Lama
being zen Bringing Meditation to Life by Ezra Bayda

Ishmael by Daniel Quinn (if you've read this far, please read this book...)
The Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich by William L. Shirer
and the list goes on forever, and the party...wait...this is books...

Heroes:

Joseph Campbell
Before I could ever claim to be on any path other than that of an alcoholic, the books of Joseph Campbell opened my eyes and heart to the possibilities inherent in spiritual practice. Any connection I make, any realization I have...all started with his explanation of the Great Seal of the United States.
Dmitri Shostakovich
The mysteries shrouding the emotional/political/etc... aspects of his life are overshadowed only by the sheer genius of his compositions.
Jimmy Carter
Even though I do not share his faith, Jimmy Carter is the last president whose faith was not mere political window dressing.
Robert Fripp
"The Owlish One" could out shred anyone on the planet, yet always chooses to serve the music. His business philosophy is the paradigm needed in the music industry if it is to survive and actually produce art.
Martin Luther King Jr.
"For hate is not conquered by hate: hate is conquered by love. This is a law eternal." --The Dhammapada
Marc Chagall
My favorite artist...
Ansel Adams
He showed us what a beautiful country we live in...Why are we so hell bent on destroying that beauty?
Jimi Hendrix
There was no filter, no difference between what was going on in his head and the sound he produced.
EW1 Washington
I never even knew his first name. He was a Vietnam vet on my ship who could never advance past First Class Petty Officer due to something that happened in Vietnam. He taught me how to trust someone with my life. When he spoke, I listened...
Robert Simpson
Easily my favorite late 20th Century composer. His music is dynamically modern yet wholly grounded in the entire history of western art music.
J.S. Bach
There was music before Bach and music after Bach. His music is the fulcrum.
Alan C.
The best sponsor this pigeon could have had...
Jerry Garcia
My favorite guitarist. Listening closely to any given show can give one a perfect picture of living life with one's heart on one's sleeve.
any member of the Tibetan diaspora
Tibet has been raped by communist China since 1959. These people have chosen to respond with faith.
single mothers
I am constantly amazed at how the single mothers I know balance everything in their lives while raising children.
