About Me

My name is Javier Alcantara-Rojas. I am a guitar student of Dr. Corey Whitehead at Fresno State University, California. In September 2007, my article co-authored with Dr. Whitehead entitled “The Speculative Theories of Manolo Sanlúcar on the origins and practical application of Flamenco Harmony” was published in classical guitar magazine Rosewood Review. On February 29th, 2008, Dr. Whitehead and I presented our University Session on Flamenco Form and Analysis at the National Convention for the American String Teachers Association in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This summer I will server as Artistic Director, under Dr. Whitehead, at the 2008 CSU Summer Art program entitled: Flamenco Form and Analysis. In addition, I completed and submitted my application for the 2008 MTVU Fulbright scholarship. I have studied Flamenco Guitar in Cordoba, Spain and Classical Guitar in Florence, Italy. In addition, I have attended Flamenco and Classical Master classes here in California with guitarists such as: Juan Martin, Celine and Angel Romero, Julian Byzantine, Apostolos Paraskevas, Richard Marlow, and Juan Serrano.
