D.E.M.A.N.D. Inc (Dancers Everywhere Making A Needed Difference) was formed by Benji Schwimmer, 2006 winner of Fox’s Hit Television Show “So You Think You Can Danceâ€, in April 2005 after returning from a 2 year mission for his church in Oaxaca, Mexico. During his time in Mexico, Benji became painfully aware of the extreme poverty and destitution experienced by the people he encountered. When he returned he made a promise to himself to never forget those people and to return and do all he could to eliminate their suffering to the best of his ability.
It is the goal of D.E.M.A.N.D. to raise funds to distribute wherever a need may arise. While Mexico is a primary goal, there will be no limitations on the individuals being assisted and eventually we plan to go as far as Africa. We are also not limiting our scope of assistance. We plan on first and foremost focusing on primary needs, such as food, clothing, medical care and housing. After those needs are met we will consider secondary needs, such as education. We also plan on visiting the hospitals and orphanages to determine what needs we may be able to assist with. While at this time we are most in need of monetary contributions, we would be more than willing to accept clothing(in good shape) and unopened hygiene supplies, such as toothbrushes and toothpaste. These items are very difficult to travel long distances with, so we generally drive these items over the border into bordering cities of Mexico such as Tijuana. On certain trips, we will be taking medical and dental professionals with us to assist in providing necessary care that may be otherwise unattainable in certain destitute areas. If you have training in any such area and are willing to assist, please feel free to contact us with that information.
The dance community is a vast population of giving and caring people and we feel that given an avenue to do so we can make a difference in the world. Any help you chose to give would be greatly appreciated.
