About Me

A textbook melancholic who often masquerades as a sanguine.

Here are some songs that I love:

My Interests

Good conversation, physics/math, music, playing guitar/keyboard, movies/series, cooking, wine/ports, exercising, reading, writing, fashion, RPGs, other cultures, history, etymology, people who are smarter than me...

I'd like to meet:

Anyone I can learn (something worthwhile/useful) from. Anyone interested in intellectual pursuits, or who is just plain interesting.

Who I'd NOT Like To Meet: Modern-day Neanderthals who lack purity of heart, love, compassion and a lust for life. No philistines or plague-bringers of any kind.

Music:

Metal, classical polyphony/choral, film/game soundtracks, various forms of electronic and traditional Celtic/Irish music.

Movies:

Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, Wes Anderson films, The LoTR Trilogy, FF7: Advent Children, The Neverending Story, The Princess Bride, Sideways, Stardust, High Fidelity, and many others...

Television:

Firefly, SGA, SG1, Millennium

Books:

Orthodoxy and The Everlasting Man by G.K. Chesterton, Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson, and various physics/math books

Heroes:

Various poets, musicians and madmen...

Anyone with willpower enough to say 'eff off' to drugs, cigarettes, (uncontrolled) alcohol, and all other mind/body destroying poisons that man has concocted and/or abused in his ignorance and lack of vision.

Vestiges of Neanderthalian Times and Mentalities Part I

Some people have an over-developed sense of self-importance.  They delude themselves into thinking that they are more significant than others on some fundamental level that only they, in their as...

I was sitting around thinking about my age the other day when something hit me like a ton of bricks: this has been one of the best years of my life. I've had a ridiculous amount of fun, made new frie...

This Inimitable Form

I generally like to think of things in ten year clumps.  From years one to ten I was a grouch and a brat, from years ten to twenty, a crank...

My Ideal Woman

Someone asked me recently what I look for in a woman, and while I was able to answer the question with some certainty, I realized afterward that I only have this basic sketch, or an outline, of the ty...

Learning To Let Go

Although the title of this blog may suggest a penning about letting go of someone (i.e. putting a past relationship to rest), this is not at all the case.  I've certainly done my share of letting...
