Sugar and spice, naughty and nice- but that is not all she is made of.Bursting on to the Portland burlesque scene, Miss Angelique DeVil is adding a little pop-n-lock to the bump and grind. Known for her eclectic style of performance, from traditional burlesque to modern-day hip hop, she is quickly becoming one of the Northwest’s most sought after performers.Dancing since the tender age of four, Angelique DeVil has been trained within the realms of ballet, modern, African, jazz and hip-hop. However, she soon discovered that it when these genres became intertwined and infused that she finds her true choreographic identity. Her travels through Baltimore, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Minneapolis and Los Angeles were peppered with go-go gigs and fashion shows- but she laid roots in Eugene, Oregon where she earned her Bachelor of Arts, with a minor in dance, at the University of Oregon. It was here Angelique first started dabbling in burlesque and founded Allure, a hip-hop burlesque dance troupe comprised of four women. Frequently appearing as featured guest performers at John Henry’s Broadway Revue, she knew this was a world she belonged to. Bound for a bigger city and more opportunity as a solo artist, Angelique DeVil moved to Portland on Christmas Day of 2007. Nearly a year would pass before she would stumble upon the biggest opportunity of her career yet. After answering an ad to be a guest performer for a show entitled Carpe Noctem, Angelique auditioned for the Rose City Sirens and SinnSavvy Productions founder, Rayleen Courtney. A month later, whilst performing at Portland’s Offical “L Word” Showtime Season Premiere party, Angelique was introduced as the newest member of the SinnSavvy family. During the next six months, Angelique DeVil was a regular feature at most of the SinnSavvy productions including: “Mannequin”, “Curvalicious”, “A Night of Noise”, as well as on the coveted Waterfront Main Stage for Portland’s Annual Pride Northwest celebration.Along Miss Angelique DeVil’s spine lies a tattoo that translates to “illumination”. This is her quest and, as she views it, her responsibility: to inspire and enlighten others. Through her dancing and performance she speaks a language of sensuality, comedy, and gender politics. She sets the stage to have the time of her life… and you’re invited.
